Thread: PS2 Final Fantasy XI

  1. News PS2 Final Fantasy XI

I purchased FFXI today at target for 84.99. They had a reduced price on it because they were going to give away the Srategy Guide with it free, but it was not available.

So I have it on hand and now I am feeling like returning it.

    PROS:

    Its a Final Fantasy Game
Its in the oversized box - (I love the oversized boxes)
It comes with the 40 GIG Harddrive

    CONS:
    13.00 a month to play
I will need to commit alot of time to play it
    Online Only

I really thing the monthly fee on top of paying 85.00 for the game is a tough pill to swallow.

I did notice that my target only had 4 in stock and at 8:15 this morning I bought one and another guy bought one , so they have 2 left.

Is it possible this game will be in a short supply in the beginning?

  2. Lotta money for a game you're not sure if you'll even like or not.

I'm a huge FF fan, but I detest mmorpgs, so it was a pass for me.

If you're not sure about the mmorpg genre, don't like mmorpgs, or could use the money on a game(s) you know you'll enjoy, I'd return that beast.

Or maybe try out the PC version, as it can be had for quite a bit cheaper.

  3. Pc version is nice only if you've got a fairly decent system to back it up. 8x AGP plus a dx9 generation card is virtually required. If your system can play Halo at greater than 800x600 with everything turned on it'll be fine. Sides I've tried playing with the PS2 Control, sucks hard :<

This is about where I stand, except my love for FF has been fading away over the past few years. While this may be a fantastic game and whatnot, it's too expensive and I don't dig the forced online play deal. I still await a new FF game (probably pass on XII, too feminine...) but this one I'm just going to ignore.

I'd say my love for the FF series is just as good as it ever has been.

FF8, FFX, FFX-2, and FFTA were all great fun. I've also enjoyed the few hours of FF:CC that I've played, though I need to spend some more time with it to see if it has any lasting appeal.

I'm really excited about FFXII due to all the different people that are working on it (Vagrant Story and Front Mission...*drools*).

    IMO of course.

  6. I don't think the PS2 controls are that bad... I'm on this now, I'd only recommend it if you like Final Fantasy and like MMORPGs though, if you're into both then it's a no brainer

I like Final Fantasy games, I'll play MMORPGs but so far the typical flaws in that genre keep me from saying that I like them completely... they can be fun though sometimes though

ok,my take is that those 3 will impede your enjoyment of this game. I genrally dislike mmo's and ff 11 worked for me, but the monthly fee is going to becomemoreand more annoying if you are already concerned about it. Also,if you already have doubts about the time factor, it will get worse. i left 11 because i doidnt have time to keep up with my linkshell(like a clan or guild) so if those concerns already bug you, it will get worse. ff11 is one of the very best mmo's out there, but i dont think it will be for you if you have these concerns.

  8. you guys are probably right.

What are your thoughts on it being a collectable or short printed?

Return it or hold it for resale value if this game becomes scarce in stores.

  9. Probably was just short on supply at Target because of the price. I was at GS last night and they had over 10 copies ready for purchase. There was talk that they might have not had enough hdd's for launch, but that does seem to be the story.

  10. so does it have the media player functions or not?
