Thread: Video Game Industry Faces 'Crisis of Creativity'

  1. OT: Andrew, you misspelled "inoffensive" in your avatar.

  2. Oh dear. I must correct it right this instant. Thank you for the proof.

EDIT: I have changed it. You are kind and I apologize for any offense you may have taken. I am trying to cut back on being opinionated and offensive around here and the Jesus Zoidberg or Classic Music Fry avatar is the first thing to go.

I respect rap music and peoples beliefs in religion. I do not want to speak out against them in any shape or form.

No more diatribes or verbal dialogue skits. They could hurt ones feelings. I will also refrain from vulgar language just incase someone is viewing this internet message board with an infant reading from their lap.

Gee wiz. My custom status could be offensive to those who like television. I will change I broke the television to Hello. This way people will receive a warm greeting when looking at it.

  3. i don't like the color of the text. it's far too blue. change it immediately.

  4. Indeed. It's merely that your inability to spell inoffensive offended me.

    *thread officially dragged way OT*

  5. Willickers! You are right. I shall change it to a less offensive shade of blue. Perhaps navy will suffice until an appropriate hue can be officially chosen.

I must apologize for my bad spelling and poor prose. I am enrolled in a rich design program for my post-secondary education and language/communication arts are not necessary in most cases. I apologize once more for my ignorance.

I will be more vanilla... no vanilla is a flavor. I must be flavourless. Simple lactose flavor should work. I also spelt flavor in both the American and Canadian favor. This way everybody wins equal share of my posts.

EDIT: I have changed. Perhaps a basic black on white is all we need. This color nonsense is too colourful and could offend men not secure in their sexuality enough to be looking at such vibrant colours.

You guys need to help me be less offensive. I'm just too offensive on my own dag nabbit.

  6. I agree with what Andrew was saying in that games could use more compelling storylines. I'd add voice acting to that. I know alot of people love Ninja Gaiden, but I felt it was equal parts DMC, Shinobi, and Prince of Persia all wrapped up in some throwaway story with hackneyed characters. It was fun, but the whole time I felt like been there, done that. Compare that game to the Metal Gear Solid remake, which I played through 3 times in between trudging through Ninja Gaiden. I think MGS's story and exemplarary voice acting raised the bar to a level that's yet to be surpassed. Even with the sometimes silly dialogue, it's more compelling than pretty much any other game I've ever played. I wish more story driven games would aim that high. Anyways, just today I made a list of the games I was wanting to get this year, and in around 40 titles 6 of them weren't sequels, heh.

  7. Metal Gear Solid had one of the greatest stories in videogames. It was contrived slightly, but it was amazing. Substance, however, didn't. The storyline basically made no sense. I even enjoyed the new Raiden character.

He was emotional, thoughtful, and evoked a different set of thoughts from you as you played than Snake. I'd like to see him return, even if you don't control him directly. He was a unique character. In most games there's a little backstory as an excuse to get a gun in your hand.

To me, the pinnacle of gaming will occur when a game comes out that has a compelling storyline where you don't kill anybody. I think of it as a detective game or something where you search for clues and the story convincing and enthralling enough so it's not tedious or boring.

There's some good examples of this but not enough.

I do understand videogames are a violent genre... even movies are in most cases, but I'd like someone to step outside for a moment and do it right.

EDIT: Damn... I should have been less opinionated in that. It's so hard to post without true meaning or side to fall on.

  8. For such a looming crisis, games sure have been a lot of fun these past 4 years.

Substance in just the Xbox version of SoL, which has VR missions and other extras. Are you talking about the Snake Tales extra in Substance?

  10. Wouldn't matter. I was under the impression that the story in Sons of Liberty was universally held to be the most ridiculous and retarded story ever. Wrong was I.
