Thread: Standardized Testing

  1. I got something obscenely high on the PSATs, in the 1400+ range, which made me lose even more faith in the effectiveness of them, as I had never done well in standardized tests before that one.

Yeah, I guess it comes as no surprise but I always did bad on the english part of those test. I usually did really good on everything else, even the reading comprehension. Well I did good on what I got done.

I don't think I ever finished the reading or science part of the ACT. Typically they pick such stupid and inane things to have you do questions on, in those parts it made it really hard for me to focus. At one point I was answering questions on squirrel migration. I had been there for 4 hours ( a hour for each part, science being last) and it was 9 in the morning, and I was hungry, and they wanted me to answer questions about why squirrels leave the nest >_<.

The reading parts would bug me sometimes to, as often times the options they gave you as answered had little to nothing to do with the passage they just had you read. So I had to spend extra time figuring out what was the least stupid and insane answer to the question.

There has been many a time that I wondered what sort of insane or stupid asshole made that test out.

  3. Got some smart SAT mother fuckers up in this bitch.

  4. I think I was 790 for verbal and then whatever added to that makes 1390 for Math. :P

As an alrernative to the SAT. Whichever I do better on is what I'll fall back on for college.

And damn, too many people in the high 1400s here.

  6. Only took it once, and I didn't study or do jack shit and got a 1200.

  7. In Australia, we get a ranking rather than a score at the end of our high school tuition. 100 is the highest, and 30 and below is considered failed (i think). they use a plethora of equations and such to determine the score, resulting with the average being between 65-75. A chick I know managed to get 99.4, which puts her way above the vast majority of the candidates. I fucked up the tests of the subjects I did well in, combined with a lack of english skills and a hand deformity/disability that I didn't claim for some reason, resulting in a terrible score of 59.1 (capable of much higher) despite coming first in 2 of my classes. I wasn't planning on going to a proper uni anyway, so I really didn't try very hard, though seeing such a low score makes the whole year feel wasted.

  8. It sucks for the kids taking SATs nowadays, back in my day, we had analogies and no written portions.

  9. Lesse.

I took the ACT in 7th grade, got a 13. Not bad, since I was in pre-algebra. In 8th I brought it up to a 16 or so.

Last time I took it, it was a low 20. I can't recall at the moment. I'm taking it in May, so I hope to break 27 then, and at least 32 by the time I get serious with these things. My father got one less than perfect when he took it (35, correct?) and he was sick at the time. Bastard expects me to get the same.

Need to register for the SAT soon...

I forgot my PSAT scores, but I became a National Merit Scholar off of them. I think the math part was ok, but I only missed one question on the english part.

I took my SAT once my junior year without any of those pussy SAT prep classes, got a 1340, then never took it again. I could've done better, but just didn't care.
