    The problem was not your having colonized them - it was inevitable, first off, and, yeah, it would've been better had the British done it, but, eh, water under the bridge.
    I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying about divorcing anti-colonialism from the progress made by it. Should we rip up a highway just because it was made by the country that was in charge? Of course not. That's just silly and ignorant.

    I do think that using the British as an example of "good" colonists isn't wise, especially in India. The British were as ignorant and intolerant to other cultures as any of the other colonial powers. They're not special.
