Thread: Bad CMOS/Boot Sector Checksum

  1. Bad CMOS/Boot Sector Checksum

After an Ad-Aware session which found a bunch of Kazaa and eDonkey related spyware (I didn't install them :/) when I restarted my computer I saw a checksum error flash up for a second (not sure if it was CMOS or Boot Sector) and then the computer asked me to insert a bootdisk. The bootdisk worked but it couldn't install CD support, so I restarted the computer. This time it loaded fine, except the startup screens look different and when I finally got into Windows 98 it automatically reinstalled some communications ports.

I'm scared some bad shit is going on, how can I find out if my computer has been jacked?
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

  2. Don't know, reformat, and install K++, all problems solved!

  3. CMOS checksum errors. I've seen those before.

Go into your BIOS, reset all mobo settings to factory default, and then manually change them back to the way you had them.
