Thread: Strider Hiryuu

Nope, but she was supposed. Originally Million was planning on a different sprite style when they first developed the game, but they ditched when they decide to remake the Arcade game. Marian was originally supposed to be an unlockable character after finishing the game the first time.

Hopefully, they base the next DDA game on this style (or least have Marian playable), but I disgress.

    Anyway.

    Osman/Cannon Dancer (1996)

I have nothing to add that hasn't been said on JAPJAC's forum. I really wish it gets emulated, since I don't think I will ever come across an actual Osman board. What other games did Mitchell Corp. developed?

    Run Saber (1993)

The closest to Strider on the SNES. It outdoes Strider in the aspect in that it can played with a second player.

    Assassin (1992)

A British Strider-clone for the Amiga. Never played it, but seems nice.

Actually, he didn't really receive a 'new' look (other than a redrawn sprite tailored for the MvC series). The current Hiryu looks different from his old CPS1 rendition, but is about identical to his portrayal in the manga (at least from artwork I've seen of the comic, never read it myself).
True, but it seems that they also made a few minor modifications in the Manga Hiryuu to make up the new version. Could just be me though.

  2. Full Mitchell game list:

    POMPING WORLD
    MAD MOTOR
    SUPER PANG
    FUNKY JET
    CHATAN YARAKUU SHANKU
    MOEYO GONTA!!
    DOUBLE-WINGS
    MIRAGE YOUJUU MAH-JONG DEN
PANG! 3 KAITOU TACHI NO KAREI NA GOGO
    SOTSUGYOU SHOUSHO
    GANBARE! GONTA!! 2 PARTY TIME
    SANKOKUSHI
    CANNON DANCER
    PUZZ LOOP
    MIGHTY! PANG
    PUZZ LOOP 2
    CHOKO
    GAMSHARA
    KO NO TAKO
    CHARLIE NINJA

  3. Thanks, Recap! I didn't know they were responsible for the Pang series though. I was tempted to google the name, but Mitchell seems to be a common name. Is Mitchell Corp still in business or did they went under?

  4. They're probably one of the most in-form arcade companies currently. One of the very few from the old years still there. They don't release too many video-games, thoe.

  5. I still want a real Strider 2. The one we got was too easy. Cannon Dancer is too hard to find to count. I know RugalBernstein from MMCafe has a board. I met him at Otakon by chance last year, if he's going again this year, hell, maybe if I ask him he'll bring it. That'd be awesome, a chance to try it out. I fear it'll be a long time, if ever, that we see it emulated, but...

This manga thing is news to me, though, and I'm very interested. Since it's not very well known I guess the idea of scanslations existing can be dismissed... I need to get ahold of this stuff.

Though the odds of the game ever seeing a rerelease or a console port are slim to none.

Seeing any thread relating to Cannon Dancer pains me, as I want to play it so badly I've considered pumping money into a supergun solely for this game should I ever have an oppertunity to buy the PCB.

But I'm paitently optimistic. There's been many "un-emulatable" and "un-decryptable" games in the past that are now available. CPS2, Konami GX (Salamander 2), etc.

  9. Some of use still wait for CPS3 whenever that gets broken.

  10. My opinion is that it's possible. Eventually. The only problem I see here is that all the games on this hardware are, in spite of being some the best pieces the arcade industry has given, very obscure for non Japanese people. And people don't ask for them. And devs don't want to put the effort in things won't get an actual recognition.

If you really want to show interest, Mish is the man and this is the board: http://www.mame.net/cgi-bin/wwwthrea...rd=mamegeneral

Because, of course, buying a Dreamcast and the ports Capcom did to obtain some profit was beyond your gaming practices. That, or you just want War-Zard, which I doubt.
