    Factor 5 Update
Making no more games for Nintendo's console.

April 14, 2004 - In a conversation with IGNcube today, Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht said the company would not develop any more titles for Nintendo's GameCube console. The studio is currently creating software for other platforms.

Eggebrecht would not say what titles were in development at Factor 5 nor would he talk specifically about what platform they might appear on. However, at the Game Developers Conference 2004 Eggebrecht was spotlighted as one of the studio heads very keen on Sony PSP development.

The Factor 5 president told IGNcube that no software from the San Rafael-based software house would be previewed at the forthcoming Electronics Entertainment Expo 2004, which kicks off this May in Los Angeles.
edit: good riddance, as far as i'm concerned.

    excerpt:
However, Eggebrecht was quick to dispel any "doom" that might surround Factor 5's announcement. Echoing Silicon Knights founder Denis Dyack, he emphasized his enthusiasm for Nintendo's future console efforts. "We are extremely excited about both DS and GCNext, so any talk of us abandoning Nintendo platforms altogether is just not true," he told GameSpot.

According to Eggebrecht, the only reason Factor 5 has stopped making GameCube games was that they've abandoned current-generation hardware altogether. "It is simply because we have moved into next-generation development," he said.

As for which future console Factor 5 was creating games for, Eggebrecht was unspecific, saying only "there might be a surprise [announcement] coming from us."

  2. ha. It would be funny if they release new Star Wars games on Xbox and they're 100x better than the GameCube versions.

  3. edit: good riddance, as far as i'm concerned.
    Same here.
Thems Star Wars games always controlled like the ass.

How would it be 100x better when all their games fail in the gameplay department?

EDIT: If they are making gaes for the PSP, they sure as hell better release R-Type or the original Turricans on it.

  5. Yeah, not a big loss from my point of view. Factor 5 does some very nice looking games for SW, but they jam each mission so full of objectives that it's almost impossible to really have fun with them. It's like going on a tour group with an anal-retentive guide: "Don't fall behind, we've got a lot of ground to cover here, and keep your grubby hands off the exhibits." Cloud City would've been awesome in RL if you could actually afford to do some serious dogfighting.

  6. OH MY GOD NO! NO MORE ROGUE SQUADRON GAMES FOR GAMECUBE?!?

    I CANT LIVE WITHOUT THEM!

This could also mean that rumored Pilotwings is for N5

  7. I saw this as the most recently posted... post... on the front page of the MB, and it said "factor 5 no longer developing for..." I was hoping the end of that would be Lucasarts, but you disappointed me.

F5's games always seemed like they'd be better if they weren't shackled to the deadlines and rushes that making high-profile licensed games for Lucasarts entails.

    Oh well.
