It would be great if something like this came to the southeast. I'm tired of going to DragonCon.
Well this promises to be interesting...

I hope it kicks all kinds of ass. I'd love to see more consumer-level shows pop up around the country, the video game equivalent of a good comic convention. Now that I think on it, I really don't know why there aren't any yet.

Time for a change
it's gonna be another p-a shillfest where they drop all kinds of p-a related merchandise in your face and thats about it.
any type of fighting game tourneys will be won by someone NOT in the local p-a crew(dont even get me started on how the local boys from TA just pwned everyone at their "Soul Calibur 2" tourney they hosted).
and since they're not playing anything "bitchin rad" on pc like The Specialists, i aint gonna even bother showing up(unless they have a dealer room where i can sell all my super cool shizznit).
XBL Gamertag = XMrWhitefolksX
*sniff*
I think it sounds like fun and since I'm in the area I'll be there. The local gaming scene can always use the support and besides, (nerd) conventions are always fun (hopefully dealers will be allowed).
The comic industry's fanbase is populated exclusively by hardcore dorks and is the domain of mom/pop retailers that make decent money at those conventions. GameStop/EB and the large consumer electronics chains have no incentive to sponsor/promote rinky-dink conventions for the hardcore.Originally Posted by James

Funny, but, FX 2003, a huge toy convention that's in Orlando every year, was sponsered by Gamestop. They even had a black game-van with three TVs on each side showing games and some cheap stuff to give out for free.Originally Posted by The_Meach

That's going to be quite a week for gaming. PAX during the week, Evolution that weekend. I'll probably just be at Evo though.
GameStop and EB were both sponsors of PhillyClassic. I think the potential is there, it's just a matter of organizing the events - which can be a huge undertaking depending on the scope of the event you're planning.Originally Posted by The_Meach

I'm with you, and I don't blame you. We had E3 and Comdex a few years back, now we've got nothin'.It would be great if something like this came to the southeast. I'm tired of going to DragonCon.
How many southeastern posters do we have here, anyway? As of late I've actually been seriously toying with the idea of organizing something like that here in Atlanta. Right now it's just a pipe dream, but if I could get a few more people interested in helping, that may get the ball rolling...
I dunno, Philly Classic was kinda like a mainstream gaming convention this year, and subsequently not as much fun as in the past. PC was cool because I could buy Vectrexes and Microvisions and shit there. There was a definate shift in focus this year. It was still a classic gaming thing, but there was alot less in the way of rarities and stuff I couldn't normally find, and absolutely zero in the way of bargains. The first PC I got a Vectrex for $40, a GameGear and games for like $8, and someone offered me a prototype Jaguar VR helmet for $15 and to this day I still don't know why I didn't buy it.
