Yeah they host FAQs, many of which you can get elsewhere (and I do). But as a general gaming site it's shit. The boards are full of 13 year olds who can barely spell, and they police them like it's some communist regime.
ya the side navigation was better and nobody cares about all of this shit. They just want to go into the place, click on a system, the letter and then get the game and faq they're looking for.
Oh well. Alienation of fanbase is cool.

CJayC... why...
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.
Because there's nothing worse than getting information, reviews, and having discussions relating to obscure games that barely rate a mention on TNL, all for free. Yeah.Originally Posted by blueskied

You're serious? What's your definition of an obscure game? Every obscure game I click on, if there IS a thread it's some stupid "karma upgrade thread" where the people just post garbage to up their karma. It's a joke.Originally Posted by Ammadeau
Most of the reviews there are worthless. Every popular game you see someone gave it a 10/10 and another person gave it a 1/10. Some of the reviews on rarer games are generally better, but I've never put enough faith in them to actually purchase a game based on them.
Eh... all the other sites pretty much just crawl GameFAQs with spiders, stealing the FAQs. IGN FAQs are pretty much the only other good clean FAQs site. The rest are run by fucking arseholes. GameFAQs is (well was, now, kinda) run by a guy that really likes games (TEH hardcore ones too) and writing FAQs, so in that way he was the perfect webmaster of a Video Game FAQs site. He built it up from a fucking tiny shitty AOL site too. Much props.Originally Posted by blueskied
Agreed... but if you search through the crap you can find some gems. There was a thread on the FFT board which pretty much cracked the language system of FFT, a topic on the Metroid board which cracked the password system, etc. A lot of interesting gaming knowledge originates from GameFAQs thesedays.Originally Posted by blueskied

Virtually every import RPG has a good discussion going when it comes out, though naturally they decline as people finish the game and move on. There was some really good topics on the Phantom Brave messageboard... and still are really, though it's faded since the games been out for four months now. Sure, there are occasional stupid topics just like on every other single messageboard in existance, but for lesser known games they are few and far between.Originally Posted by blueskied
And yes, there are the 1/10 and 10/10 one hour of play reviews. That's why I don't read them with those scores. The others are hit or miss, but on average they tend to be better than proffessional reviews. Heck, the one hour ones are better than Gamespot's.

Good points all round. If you do sift through the crap you can occasionally find some really good info. But that's true of many gaming sites. I guess I'm just tired of the sifting. I also guess I just really don't like Gamefaqs' layout (new more than old) and that's probably why I think it's shit.
TNL is definitely my fave gaming board out there, because there is such a low "crap-factor". The vast majority of threads here are actually worthwhile, and the people here are easily of the highest intelligence/coolness of any gaming boards.

I've never had to do any sifting. I just go to the boards within gamefaqs of the games I like, which happen to be of the more obscure type, and nine out of ten times there's a worthwhile discussion going on. Games that I can't have a discussion about on TNL because most of the people here aren't interested in them. Though if it's a popular game, like the recent Ninja Gaiden, I'll usually just get my info here and only scan the gamefaqs board occasionally since popular games there don't have many decent topics.Originally Posted by blueskied
