Thread: Nintendo DS Impressions.

  1. It's not like I think it's a bad idea or won't be fun or any of that. I just see $150 leaving my pocket in exchange for an item that'll require another $40 or more spent to own a single piece of software. That I won't play. Around my place, it'd be a little diversionary novelty item at best. I'm not going to sit on my couch looking at some handheld when I have a perfectly good television set, some consoles and a stack of unfinished/untouched games at the ready.

But I'm sure you all knew I'd come with this same old rap of mine

  2. Was that 2D Mario platformer on one of the machines to play? I kept circling the room looking for it but turned up zilch. Settled for messing around with the Pac-Man game. That "video" presentation before they let you play the DS sure was godawful though. And the twins weren't even hot.

Seeing it in person, I like the design quite a bit. The red and silver ones look great, and seem like a good size.

  3. How tough is the bottom screen? If you're gonna rub a stylus against it all the time, won't it be scratched all to hell by the time you finish playing that Sonic game?

You think the tip of a stylus is a needle or something? They don't make scratches on anyhing. The point is as soft as you are for asking this question.

  5. I transform into 7 different mechs, I have no need of being soft.

  6. If only I had 3 arms and 4 eyes.
To understand man, walk it shoe on other foots.

  7. I played the Sonic demo at about 3-ish on Friday and the screen was showing some wear. Sonic is the game where you rubbed the stylus back and forth as fast as you could manage to make Sonic run faster, and you could see that the pressure was leaving a mark after 3 solid days of show-goers hammering on it like spastic monkeys. Hopefully most games won't be quite so excessive in their touch screen needs.

Hopefully also, they don't run the gimmick into the ground. On the plus side I can't wait to play an RPG on this thing. Menu navigating like menus have never been navigated before!

  9. What I don't understand is why Nintendo is billing this as the "third pillar" alongside GBA and Cube. This thing plays GBA games and also proprietary software, is a handheld, I wouldn't be shocked if they ended up just calling it Game Boy DS. Does anyone else think the whole "third pillar" thing is just BS to keep the current GBA selling? Do you think GBA development will stop soon after DS releases?
