Thread: How Long Until DS Completely Overtakes GBA?

  1. How Long Until DS Completely Overtakes GBA?

Nintendo announced way back when that the DS would coincide with the GBA and would not take its place.

How long will they be able to both exist before no more GBA games are produced?

I hope even before they stop making GBA games they produce some new hardware for the GBA slot to add to DS games.

  2. The DS is backward compatible with the GBA, so I would assume it won't take long.

  3. I don't know. Nintendo might stop making GBA stuff fairly quickly, but there were a lot of GBC games by other developers still coming out.

Some of the coolest games at E3 are GBA games. Mario Pinball, Zelda, King of Swing....

  4. I figure it'll be like how GB stuff was phased out when the GBC came out, and how GBC stuff was phased out when GBA stuff came out. It'll probably be lean in releases for six or so months after the DS is released, and then the production on them will probably stop.

  5. Didn't Nintendo say both would co-exist?

Nintendo said the GBA and SP would co-exist.

Now EB doesn't even stock the GBA.

Unless it's somehow really uncomfortable or weird to play GBA games on a DS, yeah, the SP's days are numbered.

I've used my SP basically every single day since the day I bought it. I don't regret my purchase at all. Think of it as buying a year's worth of batteries for your GBA =P
