Kay-Bee pretty much doesn't carry anything game-related anymore (around here anyway). They never get new releases in unless it'some big name title, and they're clearing everything out.
No big loss, IMO.
In a conference call yesterday KB Toys store managers were told that KB is phasing out support of the XBox. Not really a surprise considering we haven't stocked systems (in my store at least) since Christmas. Bad news for young XBox fans though.
Not that big of a story considering a bunch of KBs stopped selling video entirely, but i finally got a scoop so i had to post.
Does this mean they will clearance Xbox games and consoles out, send them back or just plainly do nothing and wait until they get sold out?
Sad...
So sad...
Melf, you double posted, bro
My bets are on they'll clearance them out, that's what they did with various games at various stores around the country back last fall. Some good deals were to be had at that time including $9.99 Boktai and $14.99 Otogi.Originally Posted by evil ways
Doesn't really supise me KB is doing this, especially after Sears has already pulled support on so many games and stuff. I still find it a bit odd, though, considering when I was a kid I bought almost as many games from KB as I did from Toys 'R Us and Babbage's (now Gamestop). There was this middle aged nice black lady who worked at KB for decades who I would see almost everytime I went to the local one from when I was a little kid in grade school up until she retired when I was in my late teens/early twenties. Her name, sadly, escapes me at the moment![]()
omg TNL epics!
no clearance so far. i think they're just going to sell off what they have at regular price and not restock at all.Originally Posted by evil ways
Remember when KB dropped the Saturn because of a big payoff from Sony? That was the beginning of the end.
UHOH!!!!!! THE DEATH OF XBOX IS AT HAND!!!!!!!!!!
Just kiddin!
Seriously, it's not too surprising. Xbox is not meant for kiddies anyway (regardless of what their reps try to tell you). Too many M-rated games and not enough for the young set probably set this decision in motion.
Speaking of memories of KB Toys and gaming, I once bought Snatcher for Sega CD there for $30...sold it a couple years later to get my first PSX. Damnit, I never would have known it would be worth hundreds of $$$ on ebay...:-(
As someone posted in a previous Kaybee topic, too bad we can't pay $54.99 for a game now.
No, that wasn't it at all.Originally Posted by Videodrone
It had to do with the "surprise" launch of the Saturn, where it was released about 4 months earlier than expected. Sega didn't have enough product available to do a full launch, though, so they decided to just release exclusively through certain retailers like Electronics Boutique, Babbage's, and Toys "R" Us for the 4 monrth period. When KB found out about this, they wanted to carry it at that time also, but Sega snubbed them. In retribution, they vowed to never stock the Saturn at all, even after the full launch occurred.
Sure enough, they never did.
