Thread: Rank the Mega Man Games

  1. Rank the Mega Man Games

When I was little I absolutely loved Mega Man 2 & 3. I rented them every weekend and eventually beat them both (it took me a whle but I was only about 8 years old). Since then the only Mega Man game I've played is X on the SNES and X4 for the PlayStation. With the upcoming collection I was just wondering in what order you guys would rank the games within the regular and X series. Really though, I'm looking how they rank amoungst themselves, not the two series mixed so two lists, one for each series, would be great.

Oh, and, what do you guys think of the new Zero series on GBA?
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.

  3. If Megaman 2 had the slide ability and difficulty from 3 and the charge ability from 4, it would be perfect. But even as-is I'd hold it above all the rest.

  4. MM2 would rank #1 for me as well, the music is the best in the series IMO.

The new Zero games are great. Didn't see that question before.

  6. Megaman 2 is king on NES. Sure, 3 introduces the slide and 4 introduces the charging, but heh, the level design, bosses, and music of 2 can't be beat. The other NES ones are worth playing, I guess, but I'm not a big fan of MM6.

That said, you played the MMX games worth playing. X2 and X3 are alright, but MMX and MMX4 are my favorites. The series went to shit and there's no reason to play X5 and up.

The MM Zero games are good stuff. I'd also recommend the two Megaman Legends games, and Misadventures of Tron Bonne. Very different, but a lot of fun. They have a lot of charm to them, especially Misadventures of Tron Bonne, which is overflowing with servbots. They can all be had for about $10-$15 each new, anyway.

Yes, despite lukewarm reviews, I quite enjoyed the Mega Man Legends games. Misadventures of Tron Bonne is also quite good. It's a great universe, the MML one.

  8. MM2
    MM3
The rest in no particular order

The only X game worth playing is the first one. X4 is easy as hell, and the levels are really short. I still can't figure out why it gets so much praise.

  9. I was only ever into the main series, and I didn't even play all of those, but of what I did play:

    1. Mega Man - I still like the first one the best. Great soundtrack, well designed levels, and tough as nails bosses.

    2. Mega Man 2 - If it were a harder game, it'd be the best, hands down. But there's like one hard jump in the whole game and most of the enemies are pansies. On the other hand, this has to have the most remixed soundtack on the web, and it pretty much defines the 8-bit aesthetic.

    3. Mega Man 8 - why the heck'd they stop the series here? Visually brilliant, up there with the best 2D the Saturn had to offer. I thought the series was finally headed in the right direction after floundering around through the 16 bit years.

    4. Mega Man 3 - This game is easy. I'm talking Kirby easy. But, great visuals, decent soundtrack, and you get a dog.

    5. Mega Man IV - Another hard Mega Man. Why's it so challenging? Because this time the robots are made by some moron with no ideas named Dr. Cossack. Okay, I beat "Dust Man" and now all I get is the ability to shoot blocks of freaking dust? I think I was tougher before.

    6. Mega Man 5 - The idea cabinet becomes ever more bare. "Charge Man"? I mean come on, "charge"? That isn't even a thing, it's a verb. You get a bird in this one. moving on...

    7. Mega Man 6 - There is no way somebody didn't just click on "shuffle" in the Mega Man dev software to make this one. I mean, they're not even pretending they aren't out of ideas any more. Didn't they already have Flame Man, Blizzard Man, Wind Man, and Plant Man? Fire Man, Ice Man, Air Man & Wood Man again. And I mean, Tomahawk Man? Yamato Man? Wtf? How many people know what Yamato means? I can't wait for Lint Man & Salt Shaker Man.

I've never played 7, but I've heard it's quite good.

If you're using the right weapon, the bosses die in an average of 3-4 hits each. The Wily Stage bosses were hard, though, if you didn't use the elecman/pause trick. Except for the bubbles, those were easy.

They didn't... they went on to make Rockman & Forté on the super famicom which reused a lot of the MM8 sprites. It's the 2nd hardest standard MM game, next to the original.

You heard right. And I somehow totally forgot to include it in my ranking. I skipped an entire number =X
