I wish it were that simple of a choice (and no it is not). If it were I might consider giving Bush a second term. Besides, there are a multitude of other, just as important issues that he and I don't agree on.Originally Posted by Yoshi
So call me an idiot for having a different opinion. I've already been called unpatriotic and "for the terrorists" by those on the right, so I guess one more thing doesn't matter.
The more I hear about Kerry the less respect I have for him. (which was not much to begin with) Bush may not be perfect, but he is, in my opinion, much more of an honorable man than Kerry, who boasts of his fabulous "4 months" in vietnam "defending America" (which Vietnam was not a war that defended America or our freedoms). Kerry is the first "soldier" I've heard of to boast about his war time experience and his purple hearts....![]()

At least he can prove that. I take it you've not heard of Bush's unaccounted time in the service. I don't remember all the minor details, but basically he entered the military, put in a few months at one academy, then claims to have transferred to another to put in the rest of his time... only the place he claims to have transferred to has absolutely no record of his ever being there. An honorable man indeed. The more I hear about Kerry the less respect I have for him. Americans risked their lives. Many died. Regardless of the reasons, anyone that puts themselves on the line like that deserves some serious respect.(which Vietnam was not a war that defended America or our freedoms)
Name the other "important issues". It's not complicated just because people cling on to issues that don't really matter.Originally Posted by SonofdonCD

Also, I'd rather have less take home pay than to have China and Japan paying for my tax cuts and the President's personal vendettas.

Hopefully the GOP remebers that you can just cover your eyes indefinitely and hope the national debt just goes away.
Edit: I'm not saying that Kerry will succeed, but I think we need to start trying rather than stick to what is basically the same policy that got us so deep to begin with.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.
When I said its more complicated, I meant that it's not as simple an issue of:Originally Posted by Yoshi

I'm a registered Democrat. I don't always like everything they say, but in general my ideals and their ideals are the same. I want more stem cell research, don't want to have discrimination written into the constitution with a ban against gay marriage, and the roll-back on taxes to the highest 2% of the wealthy sounds like a great idea. During the past few years my mother has lost coverage through medicade/medicare and is struggling more with her medications, so I'll just go ahead and give Kerry a shot on that one. And lastly I never wanted to go to war with Iraq.
I do realize that yes, we are in this no matter what now. But I don't trust our current president (And yes, I do trust Kerry more than Bush right now), and fear for our country and where it is going even looking past Iraq. I have diametrically opposed views about this war and how we have chosen to fight it.
You know, if Bush just had some humility and admitted that he made a mistake, I'd like him a bit more. Just the fact that he can't say "I'm sorry America, but our intelligence was flawed. I am truly sorry that I sent our troops, your husbands and wives, sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends off to sacrifice their lives under false pretenses. Even so, what we did was the right thing to do, and I truly believe that." That shows some character to me. Character that Bush apparently doesn't have.
I also hate how the republicans are calling Kerry a "Flip-Flopper", as if no man is allowed to ever change his mind. How the hell else are you suppossed to learn from anything, including your own mistakes, if you can never change your mind? He didn't say no to helping the troops, he said no to that specific bill they were trying to pass. It seems pretty obvious to me.
This, and all the other issues that I've mentioned means that I will choose to not re-elect the man who got us into this whole ordeal in the first place. It's my right as an American citizen and I am not an "idiot" for exercizing that right.
Disagree with me, fine. Not like my views about something, fine. But calling me and others who are opposed to you an "idiot"?
I never called anyone an idiot. I said that the vast majority of Americans are idiots. It may be that everyone on these boards falls into the minority in that case. It is highly unlikely but possible.Originally Posted by SonofdonCD
BTW, thank you for pointing out that Kerry's middle name starts with a K. That makes me like him even less.
It absolutely is that simple.Originally Posted by SonofdonCD
