Thread: Rare Video Game Systems

  1. Rare Video Game Systems

One of my goals in life is to have a Video game museum that has a huge display of video game consoles. While I haven't gone in total collectors mode as of yet i've been looking around on ebay and what not to see what's out there and how to get it. Thus far I have but one rare system, the Panasonic M2. Other than trying to buy all these systems what should I do to try to get these things to put in a museum? If I were to get in contact with companies that made these systems do you think they would have some lying around and willing to give up to be displayed for the public? Or do you think I'll be on a mad hunt until that time comes when my goal is complete?

  2. Get a Yaroze ^_^

    Then give it to me.

If you're serious about this Im sure the companies will be willing to donate systems. But you gotta have plans, like real concrete plans, you cant just call them up and be like, "uhh send me a free limited edition silver PS2 so I can put it in my museum... yea... my museum".

  3. I kinda figured that and it would be concrete, because i am fucking serious about it. Why collect something if you aren't going to display it?

I also would have the history of each of the systems. I do want to include arcade games separated by the era

I nominate myself to try that and get shot down.

  5. I've always had it in the back of my mind that my videogame collection would someday serve some greater purpose, like be in a museum or at least be passed down to my children for them to enjoy and expand, then pass down to their kids. I've actually thought about how I'd sit them down and be like "I understand that Genesis games don't look as good as Xbox 4 games, but if you trade away any of my Genesis games that I just gave you for cookies at lunch you'll be in the custody of child services by the end of the night".

  6. That's too lenient for trading away Genesis games. Any kid who does that should be put in an orphanage like the one in Annie!

  7. Melf: The bad part wouldn't be that he'd be in the custody of child services, it'd be the reason child services took him away from me

  8. Hi Daitokuji,

I've been collecting video games for 15 years and I've always had in mind to put all of it in a museum one day. People are laughing when I mention this - Games are to be played, not to be displayed as they say, still they have a point but they are laughting in the same way when I said, 15 years ago, that I was collectiong video games - but I realised few years ago that it had to be an association with other collectors. I mean, I have a lot of games and consoles (more than 60 consoles and over 1600 games) but this is not enough, there is so much stuff out there ! my life-time income would never be enough. And I've always had this issue about how to pay for the location. Would people be ready to pay to look at old video games ? Some expos like GAME-ON in UK did well, I think, but it has to become more than a curiosity...
At the moment, my only approach has been to put as much information as possible about my games on my web site, to do a sort of virtual museum. Still, I don't have much free time to get this project going...

I wish you the best !!!!!

    -Laurent

  9. I'm not going to even say it.

  10. I have always wanted to collect all the different systems, own a big house with a wing dedicated to displaying all the classic video games and the progression to the current generation....

I have had so much crap (you can see a glimpse of it on my forsale thread), probably over 2, 3 thousand games (many of them are cheap like 50 Intellivision games are worth next to nothing)... Then I moved to NY and that dream is shot b/c space is a premium here, and there is no way I am going to pay storage to store these things. Hence I am liquidating all my old games and forget my dream.
