Stellvia Director Tatsuo Sato has stated on his website that plans for the Stelvia sequel, as well as any possibility of a sequel to Nadesico, are now impossible. He does not explain further. Source: 楽画

Hey, besides the whole Akito thing, I enjoyed the movie.
But, you're right. After the worthless, inconclusive ending, a sequel was definitely warranted.

It's been so long since I've watched Nadesico that I don't remember much about it. Hm, maybe I should rewatch it this weekend or something... Anyway, it seems to me they could make a prequel pretty easily, like when the two were young and knew each other like in the flashback sequences, plus there was a whole interplanetary war or something in the past, right? And Earth settled Mars or something? Yeah, I need to rewatch the series. But I'd think they could do a prequel.
