I'm like three issues behind in my reading, so she's probably already been let go amidst a firestorm of Halvy-brand sexual harassment, but I really like the new-ish chick's writing.

I think her name is Heather Campbell? She doesn't seem like a straight-up Dave clone, and she appreciates the finer points of NiGHTS. She also just writes... interestingly, for want of a better word, and doesn't make me instantly go, "Ok, this is a girl writing this." Always a good thing.

I'm still way behind, and only just now reading the November issue. Brady Fiechter gives Zak and Wiki an 8.0... which is like a 5.0 when you factor in the Play grading curve. WTF.

But while you may not feel the same, it's a perfectly legitimate point she makes. And I don't think she singled out RPGs; it was just Western games in general. I believe she used Gears of War as an example of the ridiculously over-the-top testosterone-addled Western design that doesn't really have a Japanese counterpart. For those of us who don't/can't relate to that imagery at all, we'd naturally have a predisposition towards games that take at least a less overtly masculine approach.
