I'm really tempted to try it, but I had a bad experience with Red Alert 2...
Does anyone play this game?
Im about to trade in my copy of UT2004 because I ended up playing it about 1/100000th of what I thought I would, and I can get this game for the same price as trade-in value. And I know a couple people who play it but I want to see if anyone else does. ^_^

I used to play this religiously when the ZERO HOUR expansion came out, but not so much lately. EA needs to whip up either another expansion or a continuation of the GDI/NOD series.
Right now, I'm just hoping my computer will be able to handle the new Lord of the Rings game that's coming out.
I downloaded the demo and was put off by:
01. the weird control. I guess it isnt weird, but its totally the opposite of every RTS Im used to, left-click is the main action-click and so forth.
02. The voice-overs are really cheesy and stereotypical. I guess I could get used to it but I really dont know how EA got away with having suicide bombers say "kill all infidels" and GLA peasants say, "I need shoes" with that mock-Arab accent. And lets not even get into the Chinese.
So I bought some guitar books instead. Let's move along...
I can not believe you thought the Generals unit talks to be stereotypical.
Well, they are. But they're also real funnylike "Shall I push the button?" or those Rambo mocking lines Colonel Burton says. I was used to Blizzard games too, particularly Starcraft, which I'd been playing for some 3 years because I had such a crappy comp that couldn't run anything modern. Then I get a fairly decent PC and whats new? Generals. Played it, got addicted. You actually get used to the mouse being switched in comparison to Blizzard games.
It's a lot more fun than WC3 when you get to play it right, because it's more complex and doesn't limit the amount of units you can build; and then there's the superweapons, which only adds to the destructive fun of the game.
So even tho those old time CnC fans hate it because it's not really CnC, its the best RTS ive ever played.

o and btw, don't dare you compare Generals to Red Alert 2. I played Generals first and I liked it so much I purchased the rest of the CnC collection - i figure i was lucky the retailer wanted to get rid of it. if i'd paid the whole sum i'd have been seriously disappointed. Also if you get into any CnC fan thread youll see how they piss all over generals because its not like the old time command and conquer s.

The unit limitations in Warcraft 3 is not a negative if you know what youre doing. Ever see top people play the game? Its not about amassing huge gloms of units and fighting in the middle of the map. Its about hit and run with small teams, intense micromanagement, constant pressure, and throwing the enemy off guard. Its really fast and filled with more strategy than a game like Generals could ever dream of. Even at an intermediate level the unit limitations arent a problem.
Bottom line: if you think the unit limitations are a negative, then youre clueless.
p.s.: Generals isnt really new, either. That shit came out like 2 years ago. Honestly. Dawn of War, Battle for Middle Earth, and Rome Total War are all the new shit and theyre way better than Generals.
