Thread: Half-Life 2 - official (9/14 Black Mesa Source?!)

  1. just started playing the game last night..
i'm probably not too far at all, but I really love what i've seen so far.

unfortunately, my 9800 pro seems to choke up a bit in the outdoor parts when things are happening..
has anyone else overclocked their vid. cards for this? Any tips?

I have everything set to medium and my 9500 handles it like a pro.

What's the rest of your system like?
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1
    My Backloggery

  3. Revenholm was the scariest thing I've ever seen in a game.

  4. I didn't think Ravenholm was any scarier than the average survival horror game but it was an awesome level. I love how the game is so varied in atmosphere and feel. It's leagues ahead of HL1 in that way. There's always a new experience around the corner to make you say "Holy Shit!".

    I run the following hardware.

    XP 2100
    1 gig ram
    Gainward GF TI4200

All settings on high, resolution set to 1024x768 and AA set to 2x...

Everything runs like a champ, I get the sound skipping issue but with some tweaking found in this very thread and elsewhere I have helped that and cut back on the loading times.

If your having issues with studdering etc you should tweak things out, close any unneeded tasks or services, run the latest Omega drivers and all should be well.

  6. Mzo, the enemy AI gets a bit tougher in the upcoming levels, from Nova on.

I thought it was, just because the enemies were more difficult and you had more control. No auto-aiming, no carrying around a dozen healing items, etc.

I think it also helped that the enemies were heading STRAIGHT FOR YOU instead of attacking a character you're controlling. Standing on a rooftop and seeing fast zombies far in the distance jumping from building to building to get to me is one of the greatest setpieces ever.

  8. Need some advice. In Follow Freeman I'm at the last power source, and I'm in a room that has about 4 sentry guns, 1 jumper mine and the place is covered in trip lasers. What's the best way to get through it?

  9. uh, don't touch the lasers. you'll have to crawl over the computers/furniture a few times to make it safely to the other side.

The best part is when your waiting for the dude to send the trolly and the hobgoblin zombies are climbing the pipes to get to you. You can look down on em and blast them off the pipe as they climb. And when you find that elevator that takes forever to get to your level. It starts coming up and you see like 2 hobgoblins climbing up. I ran over and shut the door thinking they would either be too stupid to open a door or if they opened it, they would be nicely framed in the door for a head shot. Except there's a fucking skylight in the room! Man, when they crashed through that and glass comes raining down it was insane. The room is pretty dark so it was like all hell broke loose.
