Thread: Opie and Anthony

  1. It's not really worth listening to unless all three are there

  2. The more time goes by the more I believe that.

I also fell into the show because of Jocktober. I used to listen to Howard all the time but he got very boring and full of angst. I tuned in to O&A at work one morning in 2008 and they were busting some DJ's balls hard. I never went back.

That's not what he does at all. Patrice is all about psychoanalyzing people, and that includes (accurately, for the most part) calling Ant out on his racism. Ant is the racially obsessed component, Patrice just isn't afraid to bring that fact up. When he's on another show, or when Ant's not on, race hardly comes up, and on stage his act is 90% about relationships. When he had his own show, it was a call-in relationship advice show.

He had an uncanny ability to break people down, that's where most of his comedy came from (it's also led to more than a few people running off crying, too, but that's a testament to his ability to cut right to the issue). Listen to how he tackled Victoria Zdrok and tell me that's not hysterical.

Ant is as dumb as they come politically. Seriously. He's just a blowhard. I really dread when the show would go political, because Ant would just think "loud=funny" and it'd be an hour of the show wasted. Just a lot of screaming about how he shouldn't have to pay taxes because he made his millions all on his own (even though he didn't).

The exception to that was, of course, when Patrice was in. It's impossible to dominate a conversation with Patrice in the room (for better or worse), and he was a great counterbalance.

Louis Black is really good at shutting Ant down too. The positive side of Norton taking days off to do whatever was the good chance that Patrice was going to sit in for him at least once. I love every time he was on the show, I'm really going to miss that.

Marc Maron reposted his WTF nterview with Patrice today, check it out if you haven't heard it.

  9. I hope they have some lengthy pro wrestling conversations this week. THERE HAVEN'T BEEN ENOUGH OF THOSE LATELY.

  10. They resigned for 2 years, I really didn't think it was going to happen.
