Thread: Lack of time

  1. While I loved Dragon Warrior 7 I'd suggest skipping it if you're not a fan of the series. Grave was spot on with his blurb. The only other game on that list I played through was Chrono Cross. I really enjoyed it when it was released but I'm not sure how well it'll hold up now. I do remember loving the music, some of the best in an RPG outside of a Suikoden game.

I too enjoyed this game alot. I liked it so much, that I bought Grandia 2 for the DC.

  3. Play Vagrant Story... or die. One or the other. You must choose.

  4. I really really loved FF9 and I should play it again sometime soon. It's true what Diff said about it being great but not being "that" monumental, like it was missing a little something to make it a little bit more of a bang. Still, you should really play it, the prettiest PS1 game I have/played.

  5. Final Fantasy 9-I loved this final fantasy, a series that was starting to lose me. If you liked the old snes ones, it retains a lot of the same feel, The characters were liekable, the number of in-references was very high, and the plot development was gripping for me.

Valkyrie Profile-didnt play...have, but didnt play, darn you morrowind

Vagrant Story-never grabbed me, it certainly tried something different, and i woudl go so far as to say it streaches the definition of what i would consider a rpg, as it has a little twitch to it. never grabbed me, but it still a strong title, but not one of the 2 keepers.

Persona 2-again, got it, and havent played it, blame bethesda.

Chrono Cross (just looking at the art I'm not too keen on the game)-the game is better than many would have you beleive, the cast of characters is vast, and that throws people, since by the end half the cast is a controllable character, but i liked that. the combat system is clever and reminds me a little of xenogears,a nd the magic system is absolutely jam packed with bells and whistles. overall a very good game and one that i would keep if i were you. The plot is very, very good, but it really only fully makes sense in retrospect.

Grandia- I enjoyed it for largely the same reasons as sleeveboy, it does a good job of conveying a feeling of real adventure, and the combat system is strong, but if its only 2, then cut it, as the story does become formulaic, if you keep 3 keep this one too.

Dragon Warrior 7-yuk, i hated this game, nothing felt right at all, the classes stunk, the characters were silly and unlikeable, the storyline started promisingly, but then flopped very, very hard, sell only to someone without a working ps1, do not risk letting someone play this game.

Legend of Mana- im torn on this one, the game feels as deep as some open ended ones to me, and i love it to death, but if you dont get hooked, you will hate it, the combat system is kind of weak, the magic system is odd and not fully needed to beat the game, and the story is very odd, more of an experiment in game design then a standard game, its only worth it if you really feel like teaching yourself the deep customisation systems, such as weaponsmithing, monster breeding, and golem construction, since none really are explained very well in the game. Try it for a bit, you will know if you care for the different plot style...oh and the musicand art on this game kick everyones ass blindfolded.

  6. Persona 2 is the only one out of the list I really liked. I couldn't really get into Valkyrie Profile but it wasn't bad.

I only played about 5 hours into Chrono Cross. Simply didn't have enough time for it. =\ Now I want to play it again =\ =\

  7. I'd vote for Vagrant Story and Valkyrie Profile, I guess. Although I got bored with VP right away and sold it, I can see how some might think it great. VS though, is brilliant. By far the most fun I've had with a straight console RPG (KoTOR excluded), and still looks pretty good today if you turn on PS2's filtering.

Chrono Cross is ugly as hell, had a lame story, and a lame, although extensive, cast of characters. Some of the music is beautiful, but otherwise, I have no idea why it's so esteemed. I didn't dig the magic system too much either, but I suppose it's a step from typical FF fluff.

FF9 was okay, but I only watched someone else play every now and then. I liked the skill system better than most FFs.

  8. Holy crap, me and Diff agree on games?

Play Chrono Cross. Sell the rest.
WARNING: This post may contain violent and disturbing images.

  9. FF9: If you can overlook the insane miss ratio on some skills, it is quite nice. Worth playing once.

...wow i have become so jaded over the years.
