Thread: Today's the Anniversary of that Crazy Blackout

  1. I was at work when it happened too. I figured (correctly) that the main roads and parkways would be a nightmare with no power anywhere so I just took side streets and got home in no time.

Same for us, here. The power flickered out for a few minutes and the cellphone towers went out briefly, but that was the extent of the damage. I barely remembered this happened.

I only knew there was a problem because the game shut down and we were really pissed, so we went upstairs and his father was going nuts watching the news. He's an electrician, you see, and was angry that this sort of thing could happen.

Several years ago there was a blackout somewhere in SoCal, and the stars came out in the sky.

911 received a bunch of calls from idiots who thought the stars were UFOs. It's kind of sad to think that some people have never even SEEN stars.

  4. Whoa PWNED!

To all of those without electric on that day.....

  5. Seeing a clear night sky and observing stars in a city with the blackout... would have to be one magnificant experiance.

  6. Let it be said that some of us on the west coast have no fucking clue what you people are rambling about.

  7. I've only seen the milky way band once. I was about 8 at the time and we were out camping somewhere. I didn't really know what I was looking at then, but damn it was cool.

Thats the sort of thing that makes me sad to live down here. Can't see shit at night. Hopefully its only for a little while longer.

Do you watch the news? Because I'm sure all of New York going without power for 24+ hours made the West Coast evening news last year. There were also some great aricles on the blackout in Time and Newsweek and that stuff with some cool photos.
