Thread: Watches

  1. I had a pretty expensive watch. I don't remember a brand or anything but the cost was around $1000. I had it until my uncle stole it and pawned it because my family is great. Not that I cared much. It was thick and sorta gaudy and I didn't like it, nor do I like wearing watches or any other sort of ornamentation(necklaces, rings etc) in general. The watch I have now is cheap with a thin leather band and I usually just keep it in my pocket.

  2. Really. Nice. Watches. Although they're almost to the point where it's silly to spend that much for something like that. I can appreciate the craftmanship and the art of making the watches, but the price tag shakes me back into reality. I think these are like a Louis Vuitton bag - sure it's really nice but, come on, it's just a fucking bag.

That said, if I ever have (tons of) extra cash and need a really, really nice dress watch I'd go for something like this.

  3. Sorry to bring digital watches into the fray, but I love these Fossil Phillipe Starck watches:

Mmm, futuristic. I probably would never wear one, but awesome design.

  4. Breguet Day Date with moonphase, white gold
I love that old time style with the moon and sun. I'd love to get a real classy watch some day, something with roman numerals like the one six posted.

    Look at this crap:

  5. Too fancy and expensive for me.

    I like my watch:

  6. Nice, Kenshin. I was looking at another Diesel watch in that style for a while, but the price tags kind of put me off. However, I really like those Fossil digital watches. Enough to drop $125? I don't know, but they're awesome.

Another watch that was cheap and I really liked was this Tokyo Bay one I saw a while back, which I found a photo of at thinkgeek, of all places.

Reminds me of the clocks my high school had, leftovers from the 70s.

  7. I like that last one Stone posted a lot, too. Quasi-complex; very cool. My favorite is still that original one that I pointed out, though.

It is a nice watch, but when you come down to it, a watch just tells time. Yes, it's flashy and stylish, but deep down, you just want to know if it's a quarter past 7. Like Mech said, your money's best spent elsewhere.

When Stone gets settled in Philly, I'm sure he'll be able to explain the purpose of an expensive watch. I'm not sophisticated enough to understand and explain.
