Yeah, if you want to make everything about just opinions, then no one can ever win. That's no fun.

But seriously, I was responding to:

I really don't think this is true because (a) the Halo multiplayer experience is still going strong years later and (b) nobody really ever talks about Metroid Prime at all. It became a bargain bin game very quickly. Not to say that it wasn't a very good game, but odds are people aren't going to be talking about it years later like they did with, say, Super Metroid. It just wasn't the phenomenon that Nintendo wanted it to be. In fact, I don't think Nintendo does phenomenons anymore. Hell, I love their games, but they're just not big with the people, and that is what gets you talked about in the future.

And I think it's been explained thoroughly enough that there's no further need to put "quotes" around such an "archaic" and "illogical" word.

Then why talk about anything? It's obvious Halo gets talked about more.

As did a few friends of mine but I couldn't stand it. Maybe on a good controller with explosions that don't linger like a raver chick on E and some weapon balance I would play it again. That game had some of the most annoying setups and level design (God forbid a couple players should get into sniping positions, it could be hours before a match ends from pecking each other to death) and I can't remember how many times a match would "pause" because someone fired a rocket into a hallway bend. On the other hand, it was pretty hysterical to have boxing matches of Oddjob against Jaws.
Yeah, except that there "more accessible" means "not as deep."
My point with those comments (and bringing up Goldeneye) was that most of Halo's success is because it's a console FPS that's not shit. If Rare had made a Goldeneye 2 it would be this same HUGEness, whereas HL2 will probably be better then Halo 2 + a mythical Goldeneye 2 but I have yet to see or hear anything about it in any videogame store I've been in. Heck, they're still making TimeSplitters games and no one would've bought that the first time if it had been PC-only. (For the record: Halo 2 does look cool and I will be buying it, so I hope it's actually a fun game this time.)
I'm really having trouble understanding why you're comparing one of the best games in its genre to a mediocre game in its respective genre.
Halo pretty much is the FPS equivilant of DOA to me. There's one single-player level that was cool and plasma grenades are awesome, the rest of game I don't care about/didn't like. I've always hated the jumping (which isn't even consistant with the rest of the gravity) and I don't like how they did weapon balance, but at least the aiming was good on PC.

[edit] Fix jumping and I'll immediately think Halo is twice as good as it is now. Also do weapon balance in a good way like UT2k4 instead of just mixing speed against damage and I'll think of the game as highly as other people do.

Yeah, I actually really hate the stupid, floaty jumps.

Well, see, if you look back a few pages, my most anticipated game is Half Life 2, easy. But the choice here was between Halo 2 and MP 2. To me, there's no contest, no matter how you view it: gamewise, saleswise, etc.

Yes, it is true that I have never played Halo 2, but I have faith in Bungie's ability to improve on their previous work. The city level shown at E3 was already better and had far more interesting things going on than anything in the original Halo. If the whole game can carry that momentum, I can see it being a better game that MP 2.

Plus, I like the way that Bungie didn't just say "HEY, WE HAVE A 10 10 10 GAME HERE, WE WIN!!" They were like, "yeah, we got lambasted by the critics for weak level design, and it's something we're working very hard on." I don't remember the critics saying anything like that, but hey, they're listening to the complaints I had about Halo, and directly addressing them.

Well, sure, once you bring other games in I don't think Halo 2 will really stand up but just between those two Halo annoyed me and Prime didn't. It's not that I don't think Bungie hasn't improved the living hell out of Halo it's that I've got a feeling they won't do it in the ways that I personally would like them to. If they do then hey, whoo-hoo, beers for everyone and I'll have something to enjoy playing on Live in between sessions of BO3!

  10. Reason #957318751307106713067 that Halo 2 will be the greatest thing to ever grace your TV
