Thread: Inexpensive Bicycles

  1. Inexpensive Bicycles

I need a bike for around campus that wont destroy my wallet. I like road bikes but that seems to always mean $400+. I'm 6'2". For bikes on the cheap am I stuck with Huffys?

  2. Try looking around thrift stores. My dad's found tons of excellent quality bikes, but it may take a little patience,
To understand man, walk it shoe on other foots.

  3. In interested in this as well. I have a bike path right behind my apartment but all I've done on it so far is walk and jog.

FPM - There's not too many thrift stores around here... not sure if the local Salvation Army would do the trick for me...

  4. steal one.

There will be plenty to choose from on campus too.

  6. Pawn shop, you can get one for about $30 that is decent to get you to class.

Does'nt Walmart carry Mongoose (Trail Bikes)? They used to be a respectable name in BMX bicycles in the 80's. Have'nt really kept up with it since then.

    *Edit*
    Just checked out www.walmart.com

They have both Schwinn and Mongoose trail bikes for under $240.

  8. How much are you looking to spend? Are you only going to use it around campus or possibly casual riding as well.

  9. You can also check out bike shops for sales. About a year ago, I picked up a $600 mountain bike for $300 because it was "last year's model."

  10. Here is a decent GT for $249. Here is a model up for $299.
Keep in mind these are list. It's the end of season, local bike shops are going to be closing these out. It should be easy to $50-$100 off even these models.
Go to a larger bike store and them them what you are looking for. A GT or Trek are going to be a better bet in the lower price range than going to walmart.

The links won't work, just look at the pavement and mountain bikes. I had a 2001 Timberline (they go for $300 now). It was a good bike to get me through school.
