I'm actually very surpised that most reviews of this game are giving final scores of 8s or 9s. Are people really that starved for something different?
Really? What about the story? 'Cause you know how it's going to end. If you don't you need hand in your fchan card. Maybe it's cause I didn't have to pay $50 for this game but man this is whack.
lol you're not better off reading a book, just watch an episode of Tenchi Muyo or read Love Hina.

I know. The only reason I played the game besides the fact that I have a hard-on for SRPG's is that it was getting good scores. For the life of me I don't know why this game cleared a 6 in anybody's review.

Also, there is a 5:1 ratio of time spent reading text to playing battles until chapter 7, so someone looking for action would be understandably disappointed.
That's how I feel - didn't know that was a major aspect of ST games (all I read was 'awesome SRPG elements') and it's beginning to bother me. I feel creepy as all fuck that, in order to get my team's stats up, I have to 'grind' their affection of me. Kinda like Dragon Age, although DA lets you 'grind' it out like a game, there's lots of opportunities. In ST it feels like if you fuck up, you have to live with it (or reset).
I'm approaching it from a 'make the best of it' stance. I'm really digging the combat and the story is kinda hackneyed in that fun "I haven't watched anime in years" sort of way. Don't think I'll keep it or try multi plays though.
I'd say it's a solid 7 -- I'm working on a review for here and I had some trouble wrapping my mind around it initially cause I thought it was an srpg, but it's really just an interactive novel with srpg elements... characters are ok, dialogue is kinda fun, and the battle system isn't too bad (though some battles take entirely too long). An interesting game but by no means ground-breaking...
still it's one of the last good ps2 games, mostly likely will be collectible (most recent NISA games have not sold well, so low numbers out there), and has nice packaging... not too bad for 40 bucks, even for non-fans
"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"
This sure disappeared off shelves quickly. I never even saw the PS2 version in stores. I bought the first used Wii version I came across. I never put much time into the past games as playing through text-heavy shit with FAQs isn't my idea of fun. The story in this one is pretty retarded but the game still has some charm to it. It's something different for me anyway.
I put about 8 hours into it, but made the mistake of checking a FAQ when I kept giving the "wrong" answers. Then I couldn't play it without a faq. Then I lost interest.
Would like to go back to it someday and pretend there are no wrong answers.
As an aside, we got a couple copies in for both systems. The only copy we sold was the one that I bought (ps2).
The only PS2 copy that the local EB received was the one I pre-ordered. It's available through NISA's online store, though.
This game sucks.
