I'm still going to get this game (eventually, rolling the dice on cheap ebay copies coming quickly) and all, but every time I see a Famitsu score mentioned I have to end the sentence with "... and they gave Nintendogs a 40."

Thanks for all the media updates by the way.

    Don't forget: Famitsu gave ST4 a 36 / 40 (10. 9, 8, 9).

One point above utter feces is still feces.

  5. We Love Katamari Damacy got 10 / 8 / 8 / 8 - (34/40), so is that 2 points below utter feces?

Sakura Taisen 4. Pathetic as it sounds, the Sakura Taisen series changed my life. I've never cared for a game as much as I did that. I bought many CDs, DVDs, figures, etc etc. I talked about it everywhere I went. I led a panel on it at an anime convention. I did all these things... only to see everything I loved driven to the ground in this one. The only redeeming quality is perhaps the last 10 minutes of the game, where the only character development and plot continuation occurs. I have nothing but bad things to say about every other aspect of the game.
You've never really pointed out what's wrong with the game, so I can't tell you whether STV will be better based on the demo. However, the character development and story should be decent and original because there'll be a new cast and setting. IMO ST4 wasn't up to par because they skimped out on the anime cutscenes and the story was too short. I bet those problems have been addressed. Maybe you've outgrown it.

The battles alone are fun & loaded with eye candy. Controls are streamlined so that menu navigation is kept at a minimum. All functions are mapped to square, circle, and X, and attack modes can be toggled with L1/R1.

Nintendogs is still a game, sort of.
The first thing that arises whenever someone talks about Nintendogs is the claim that it is not a game. "Dude, it is just a stupid Tamagotchi clone with dogs!" Such a vehement response is indicative of a larger trend in both the designer and gaming community. Unfortunately, it is a trend that has its roots in a fundamental misunderstanding of game design.

Or maybe everyone else gets that Famitsu's scores are full of BS.

  7. I was at Taisho Romando a few weeks ago and looks like they're getting a head start in rolling out the NYKD stuff already. It looks like the next drama CD will also feature the NY gals. I think I'm gonna skip the LE this time but I'm still looking fwd to getting the game.

Thanks, it's been a while, I missed that.

    Complaints:
I've mentioned a lot of things throughout the review:
    1) Load time
    2) Rehashed graphics
    3) Rehashed music
    4) Game length
    5) Shallow characterization
You might be short-changing yourself by projecting ST4's faults onto ST5 this early.

Well, non-game or not, I still don't see how a handheld version of Dogz the Screen Saver is perfect.

Because there's just a bit more to it than Dogz, it's executed infinitely better, and it's obviously not being judged on the same merits as Ninja Gaiden or Xenosaga. From everything I've seen, it's a fun game with a great presentation that can last a long time. People said The Sims was a stupid idea too before they actually played it.
