Thread: Dai Senryaku VII: Modern Military Tactics

  1. Here's the cover, which I like. I'll try and get this game in a few weeks.

  2. I played Iron Storm back in the day. It was really crappy and ugly. It didnt even come close to the PC strategy games of the day, like Panzer General. So this game will be good if its more like Advance Wars than Iron Storm.

  3. Iron Storm and Panzer/Allied General are on the same level, IMHO. Storm played more fluidly and the AI didn't take nearly half as long. The expansion pack (only available in Japan) was decent as well.

  4. Nah, you're wrong.

Wow, so they kept the shitty japanese name, and put a bunch of japanese words on the cover?

That will really pick up sales, considering people can't even pronounce the damn name. They should have just left it at Modern Military Tactics, personally.

At least then they'd get the whole "older gamer who plays nothing but war games" crowd, but people are going to see Dai Senyraku VII and a barrage of japanese letters and probably take a pass.

I've beaten Allied General, Panzer General, Iron Storm, Iron Storm Expansion pack multiple times with every playable army. I know of what I speak.

I've never played Iron Storm, but I would honestly take SNES Conflict over Panzer General. That was the poster boy for drab & repetitive. Are there any moving graphics in the game at all? PG was so dull I put it down after two days with it and never played it again until the inevitable trade in.

Ugh. That may be the most generic name for a game I've ever seen. Although, that's pretty much what Dai Senryaku translates to (Dai Senryaku just means "Great Tactics" if you translate it literally; the name has a bit of a pun when the words are put together in Japanese - Daisen means big/great war or battle, and senryaku means tactics. ) Dai Senryaku at least stands out.

When has having a Japanese name ever hurt a game's sales?

  8. Meh, I can't really say that a military strategy title would really warrant the attention of too many casual gamers anyway, and this way it'll maybe scare off the ones stupid enough to mistake "military strategy" for "awesome military action shooter that is totally returnable if you open it and it's not what you thought", which tends to happen...

  9. I'm just not looking forward to the hassle of going to EB, and being like "hey, do you have Dai Senyraku?" and they give me the blank looks, and the "what the fuck are talking about" stares afterwords.

If the game was marketed right, they could easily pitch it to all the guys that do nothing but play Tom Clancy games and war games in general. The military strategy market is HUGE, and the game will get lost in the field because with a name like Dai Senryraku they might not even take notice as to what it is.

I just disagree with the very Japanese name, because it's not an easy sell to anyone with that type of name, and this game could become a sale for many people but they'll pass it over with that name.

  10. I feel you on the EB thing, but the name's not really hard to pronounce. Die (as in "you will") sen ree-aku.

I guess some people will pass over it because it has a hard word on the front, but I don't know if calling it Iron & Guts: Maximum Tactical Dominance or whatever Tom Clancy fans want to see would cause it to fly off the shelves.
