*blink* I don't know where you get this idea from, because I do take responsibility for anything I do, I'll amit to doing it. Though I also will amit that I have a higher energy level than most people I know. This can be proven by teachers at school and my work at the factory. ADHD isn't always a bad thing, so there's no reason to use it as a bad excuse...

Attention is a hard thing for me, because I want to do like five things at once unless I'm not doing well. So if I'm stuck focusing on one thing I fall asleep.

Hyper is bad when you gotta sit still... you learn your own releases for it... my leg starts to shake when I set to long just to let the energy out. Though at a job like what I do, pulling little plastic parts out of a molding machine the energy and speed is good... which makes me the fastest person they've ever had on my machine, pulling parts out in less than five seconds. My numbers have been higher than anyone else since I started, not because the other people aren't trying their hardest, but because I just got that extra kick of energy to do the job.

Being ADHD is also good for me, because of how well I do in costumes, which is my favorite job in the world... wearing costumes to entertain children. I can wear these costumes for hours and stay hyper the full time. Use to make $125/hour wearing costumes... want that job back.

Though being as hyper as I am... makes it so editing parts of jokes and stuff can be done to make it look like something different. It's not an excuse and I will amit to doing and saying everything on there... and I ENJOY being ADHD. It's just something that came in handy for the Totally Obessed crew. And I'm glad they had fun and got their laugh out of it... because I got to laugh at it too.

    but it is over-diagnosed.
I thought you said you worked with kids?

...my leg shakes all the time. But I don't think I have ADHD. <shrug> When I actually sit down and try I can concentrate on anything.

I'm a Sunday School teacher on Sunday, and work a factory job the other 6 days a week (when working, out right now because of a work injury).

Eh you can thank the system for that. It isn't even a sickness. There is no bug, germ, bacteria, virus, or cancer that causes ADD. It is a way of being. It means your brain works differently than average joe bob. That is all it is. If you have a kid with ADD it means he thinks a little differently than other kids who do not.

Our culture wants to consider it a sickness, because if it is a sickness your insurance and healthcare will pay for the pills.

That is why you see kids who aren’t really that bad, taking pills for ADD. Some new age family who refuses to spank or ground their kids wonders why their kid is bad and won't do his homework, and think "hey yo, maybe he has ADD".

They go to the Doctor, he sees the kid acting like a crazy little monkey and prescribes some pills. And because it is a "sickness" their insurance, or whatever pays for it.

ADD is real, but it isn't a sickness. It is arguable if people should be treated for thinking differently. It is very unlikely that there are as many people that really have ADD as there are people taking pills for it.

  7. I totally agree with IronPlant on this topic, and I also think that people with ADD and ADHD don't need pills if they get the right outlets! I don't take any pills for it, true I'm more hyper and do things different... but my mom decided not to put up with medication for something like this... and I'm just fine without any medication.

I just got more energy and things going on at once than all of my friends put together... but I have learned to control the energy and use it to better myself in doing what I want to do. I don't let it control me, and I don't let medications control me either.

  8. I can sympathize with Michaelangelo, though, I have a similar obsession with Fleshlights.

  9. Maybe it wouldnt be a bad idea to try the medication.......

On second thought I think most of this forum has ADD. They can't focus on a new release for more than a month.

I agree, I'd love to see a lot of stuff from the Archie comics in the show, esp Ninjara she was a very cool character. And it'd be nice to see Jagwar... the Mighty Mutanimals were some great characters. Though LeatherHead in the new series is already shown to be based off of the Mirage comic, with almost the same history as he had in the comic. Nice to see someone else here read those comics!

Some things just aren't the same as the original but I think it's a thousand times more entertaining than the new Batman on the WB...
Yeah, the new series has a different feel to it than the old show did. Though it's suppose too, since Peter Laird is more after a feel of the original comic. And I'm glad they're going the way they are. There is a page on the offical TMNT web site ( http://www.ninjaturtles.com/ ) that shows what the Turtles were going to look like if they went with WB. I'm glad they didn't go there....

I have all the DVDs for the new series so far (the first few are good because they have interviews with Peter Laird on them). Though I also still collect the original series, with the first season of that on DVD. As long as you don't compare the two together... they're both great shows!

The Mutanimals were awesome. Then, Archie had to go and fucking kill them with lame, generic robot men (MY HEAD IS A BIG EYE! I'M A BLACK GUY IN A MASK! I HAVE A RETRACTIBLE FIST! I LOOK SCARY AND HAVE A SHARP TONGUE! NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!) killed them and we have to see them rotting in hell. Literally. That was really fucking weird for me to look at as a kid.
Whatever came of that? Last comic I read is when Slash was telling future Don and all those crazies to leave while he holds off Mala... whatever her name was... her bug children things. I never got to see what happened next...

The Foot Soldier designs are cool, the Shredder design is okay and the Turtle designs are laughable:

  22. Anybody who is uninformed can write off ADHD as 'people who are stupid.' But then how do you explain all of the doctors, lawyers, and other successful people who have been diagnosed with ADHD, and through continuous treatment, have been able to both succeed at life and exceed all expectations of people without learning disabilities?

You, sir, are completely uninformed if you write off any condition, especially a learning disability that is acknowledged by every psychologist on the planet as just 'people who suck at life.'

People who use ADHD as an excuse, without getting treatment are people who suck at life, but that can be said about any condition that you have, but refuse to get treated for, yet continue to use it as a crutch.

Well I still don't know if I really buy that people who have ADD suck at life.

Under the current test for ADD many have said that Ben Franklin, Albert Eienstein, and Thomas Edison would of had ADD. And yet they all grew up to be very smart men who really helped the world. Some even say that the parts that made them productive members of society as adults may have been directly linked to ADD.

Now if what you are saying is true how could these men be productive?

Can ADD be selective in the parts of a person's mind that they effect?

In middle school I knew kids who were very smart, and yet had ADD like personality traits. Kind of like the hyper girl from that 80's move, real genius.

It looks like ADD can be selective and/or effect random parts of a person’s mind, or there is something else that is being confused for ADD.

  24. Generally speaking, if you get someone with ADD to really focus on something, they often excel at it, but its not exactly easy to get someone with ADD to focus on the first place.

  25. I think you guys didn't get what I was trying to say, and I think it was my fault for not explaining.

People with ADHD are definately not stupid, in same ways that couldn't be further from the truth. The best analogy I have is that it's like having a computer with lots of RAM, GB, Ghz, a DVD burner, and a Widescreen, but then running it with Windows 3.x

But it's true, not having intact Executive Functions is the most debilitating thing for "life". The biggest misconception with ADHD is that these people aren't paying attention to anything, the problem actually is that they pay attention to FAR too much. They take in so much that they can't concentrate on the things that most people think "matter" such as schoolwork, and instead focus on things that stimulate them the most (sometimes this will be smacking the shit out of the nextdoor neighbours cat with an inflatable candy cane, other times it will be the theory of relativity).

And that's why you get lists like this:
    http://www.kpinst.org/famous.html

Sometimes, having a much wider view of the world can make you succeed were others could not. These people could think outside of the box because their brains were not shackled by an organisation system that throws out the window the "stuff that doesn't matter", and that is why people with ADHD are generally so creative.

The opposite of someone with ADHD are those dry boring driven people (you know the type), those that are REALLY close minded and don't have one hint of creativity, and do what is expected of them. But these people almost always do well at "life", that is: do well at school and university, work hard in a soulless job, marry, have kids and die anonymously. Basically the drones. Which is why ADHD is seen as a bad thing.

The South Park episode on ADHD pretty much sums my feelings of it.

My name is Michele Ivey, I am 26 years old, and am amoung many other TMNT fans of my age, a huge fan of the Turtles. I will not denie being obessed with them... because I am. Though sometimes people can use your energy and obession and turn it from what it is... to something they think might be more entertaining. Which brings forth both the evil newspaper artical and the Funny Totally Obessed show.

First to answer your questions and ask a few of my own. *G*

First let's go in order shall we?

Dolemite: Nice to know there's people out there who take their time to try and pick on those on TV. You know, it sure makes for some GREAT reading entertainment. But onto your post...

And the article above was wrong...on Totally Obsessed she claimed to have spent $2000 for the Donatello head (yes, just the head) and $5000 for the whole Michelangelo costume.

Both stories were wrong... but your little story here is even funnier... because I don't know were you got your information... ok, first of all I spent $1,800 on Leonardo's head from TMNT 3 and $2,000 on Michaelangelo's head from TMNT 3. These are not just foam rubber heads, they have all of the computers still in them and if hooked up can be made to work. Stuff cut from both stories is that the reason I buy this stuff is because I'm studying them, not just because of my fandom. I'll love to one day wear costumes for a living.

Maybe I'll see what she'll offer me for it...after all, look at what she blew for foam rubber. This is quality video/musical entertainment.

Eh... there's some places even TMNT fans must draw the line... I've got this video sadly... even sadder it was even made... I'm not a fan of anything to do with Vanilla Ice and wish he didn't make it into the second movie. The only reason I have the tape is because it was a gift someone picked up from a Dollar store.

Oh, and if someone here on TNL can pretend to tolerate her obsession and provide video or photographic evidence of taking her virginity, I'll mail you a Red Lobser gift certificate, good for one order of cheesy buns.

This poly will also not work... sorry... not into any type of relationships... the nice lady from the newspaper decided to lie once more... taking a joke and making it sound serious. The reason I don't date is because I'm not interested and thanks to the annoying reporter... I now get emails and snail mail from people wanting to meet me... forget, not going to work.... Before this I've already got other guys still trying to get a date with me, that has been going for years of me saying no.

Reason: I want to get into a traveling entertainment work, which means not much time to be home with the family.... so best not to have to worry about a family, right? I've been mind set on this since I was a child. Doesn't mean I don't like guys, there's a few I've had my crushes on... but I never acted on it... because I know where I want to go with my life. Which is a lot more than what I can say for a lot of people my age.

    Gohron is next...

I don't understand obsession, giving up large parts of your life for things that normal people would only consider a side-hobby.

Truthfully I don't understand it either, it started off as a normal fandom. Though everytime I started to fall out of it, something big would happen. Be it meeting the creators Eastman and Laird, going to the studio, getting back stage at the concert, and even getting on the set of the live action show. I started to realize after awhile that the Turtles became a big part of my life... much more than any other TV show or comic out there. And I saw how they helped me in life... with reading, defending myself, and getting me friends. It didn't start as an obession and I didn't choose it to be an obession... it just.. well... happened.

    Roufuss
And yet there are people on this site who spend ungodly amounts on video games, and who buy tons of them they'll never even open or play, and sometimes spend upwards of 300-500 for one game? Cmon now, let's not criticize the poor lady and her obsession.

Thank you! Nice to see some people around is worth saying Hi too. There can be a lot worse things to be obessed over.

    Rumpy
lol. She lives at home at age 26 so she can just spend her paycheck on Turtle stuff. That's...something else.

Wow, you mean spending about $400 a month would be your full pay check every week... man, you need a new job.

Ok people... they asked me how much I spend on Turtles... there's no way to answer this... first of all... I spend about $200 a month on a loan for my car, than I spend about $200 a month on a loan which helped pay for the Michaelangelo head, a new bed, computer, and roof rack for my car. They counted that second loan to be only for TMNT. Than I might spend about $20 or less a week on TMNT toys keeping up with the new ones as they come out, and maybe $15 a month on the comics. True I buy odds and ends here and there, but not all the time. And I NEVER have spent a full weeks pay check at one sitting on TMNT.

Now about living at home with my mom and dad, well let's face it... this world cost a lot to live in, and if you want to set up a future you need to set up a savings. Which I'm working on, to publish my own book, and get into the careers I'm after. Also both my mom and dad have health issues, so staying home I help them, and pay rent to them. I get the second floor all to myself which is like my own appartment. And I get along with both my parents so unlike some people, it's not torture to see my family everyday. Infact my work hours is different from them, so when they're awake I'm sleeping and I'm awake they're sleeping... not like I see them all that much.

I bet there are a few 8 year olds Turtle fans out there that would like to hang out with her. And then realize she's freaking crazy.

LOL I won't denie to being crazy. *smirk* And I am a Sunday School teacher so I do get to hang out with children. Though they know I'm insane from the get go.

    Jetman
Turtle Talk? What the hell would this consist of besides "Cowabunga" and "PIZZAAA" ?

Turtle Talk, talking about the shows, the comics, the toys, and anything else. Of course I can also talk like each of the Turtles... though only do that when entertaining someone with it... I wouldn't mind getting into voice acting.

Bah, she needs to move out of her parents home and live in the sewers. And she calls herself a fan... pfft...

*blink* You nuts, the TMNT don't even like living in the sewers... example TMNT 3. "Your house is a nice appartment while we have to live in the Sewers" said by Michaelangelo himself. Blah... stinky sewers no thanks. And you don't have to be a Turtle, to be a Turtle fan.

    Fighter-X
Wow. Obsession is a scary thing.

Only if you let it assume your life... and if it hurts other people. But if you can go on living a normal life and keep your obession to the point where your friends don't even have to put up with it all the time, than it doesn't hurt really.

    Rhydant
How could you spend $400 a month on Ninja Turtles stuff? I mean, after a while, wouldn't you already have everything made?

Personally I don't feel you could ever have everything that was ever made... too much out there. And sometimes you don't want the stuff.

    Andrew
She's clearly a really big loser.

Hehehe you're funny. Cleary if I did spend $400 a month on TMNT, and I'm sure some months I have spent near that amount... it just means I got money, which means I got a good paying job... to be able to afford that. Plus by my own food, pay my bills, and take my friends out to movies and food. *smirk* Don't knock someone till you know them.

    Dolemite
I ran across that post when I found the pic of her...I was thinking about mailing her and seeing if she'd give me $500 for my Vanilla Ice Ninja Rap videotape. I think she's crazy enough to do it.

    Sorry... I'm not. Blah...

    Mzo
If she likes Mikey so much, why is her name "Donatello"?

Good question, check out the Totally Obessed Message Board, topic is Turtles Turtles everywhere, I answer that question.

And for anyone else interested in finding information about me, or just something else to pick on... because you're all so fun to read. Check out a web site I'm working on... it's not much now... but it's got some stuff on me...

    http://www.geocities.com/IveyAngelo

Thanks for your time, and hope you enjoyed my visit. <- If green could be a Turtle...

OH! One fast post...the full body Michaelangelo costume I have... that I think was the one that Dolemite thought I paid $5,000 for... na... it's home made. My dad, mom and I made it back in 1993.

Which is what a lot of people says is the cause of my obession with the Ninja Turtles... I take in so much information about them... and don't focus on a lot of other stuff. In school, I'd be drawing, writting my own stories, and thinking of what I want to do at home. Instead of always paying attention to the teachers, if it wasn't for a lot of help from my mom I would not have made it through school.

I also have Dyselxia, so learning to read wasn't easy... because it didn't interest me and I had a harder time learning than most people in my class did. Infact that's why I give TMNT the credit for helping me learn to read, I was a 1st grade reader in 5th grade. And I had no interest in learning to read either, it all seemed boreing... why read when there's TV, toys, and many other things you can go out and do which is more fun?

My mom saw my interest in the Turtles and picked up the comic books, one Mirage and a bunch of Archie... I wanted to know what the Turtles were saying... so I started to try to learn... than she bought the movie novel and told me that if I read the full book before the movie came out that I could go and see the first TMNT movie on opening day and miss school for it! That was the first book I ever read. From comics to novels to magazines, I started reading... I'm still at a grade school reading level for the most part... you'll see I keep my words simple... though I do read a lot better than I would of if I didn't find something that interested me in reading.

Now I'm on the internet everyday, talking Turtles, anime, and RPing with friends. I'm glad I learned to read.

And that's why you get lists like this:
    http://www.kpinst.org/famous.html
Which is why I still feel I got a chance to get out there and do something with my life... but it's not going to happen working at a boreing factory job....

Yup, gotta agree to this too. My friends go insane because I'll be doing so much at once... example... they'll want to watch a movie... once they got the movie on, I'll be RPing on the internet, writting a fanfic, and playing spider while keeping my eyes on message boards all at once. My friends will get upset with me thinking I'm not paying attention to the movie too... I'll have to quote the last few lines, and say the plot and what was on the screen to prove to them I was paying attention to the movie. Sometimes they don't think I'm listening to them unless I"m looking at them... because they see how much I'm doing... but I back track on what they're saying and prove to them that I am listening... it can get annoying to them...

Though I'll have to say it's very hard to sit down and do just one thing... let alone sitting down and doing nothing... my brain is never doing nothing... someone tells me to sit down and clear my head... and it's not going to work... I think of everything else going on around me, including where I'd rather be than sitting there trying to clear my mind. *G*

Blah I don't get along with a lot of those type of people... I see someone in a suite and find myself running the other direction *G*. They don't understand me, here's an example from someone who caused me some trouble when I was younger... recently I was on the radio because of the VH1 thing, a radio station emailed me asking to be on their show... while on there a girl from school called up saying "When is it time to grow up" than she starts going on about how she's 25 with four kids already. She was trying to nail me to make it sound like I don't have a life and am not grown up just because I do so much other stuff..... people don't always see pass the cloths and the obession to see how much I have grown up and do what I need to do.

Even with ADHD, Dyselxia, and Obession (hehe gotta throw that in there). I have a job, I've been pretty good at. I keep all my bills paid, I help my friends when they need it, I drive (and have my dream car... a VW bug!), and have a lot of big dreams that I reach for. I have a book I'm writting to hopefully publish some day on characters I created, 10 chapters are written and edited already. I've traveled to New York City and to Vancouver BC in my life, and still travel somewhere every year. I keep busy, and live my life to the fullest... I don't need kids or to get married to be happy... because the things I already do keeps me happy enough.

The South Park episode on ADHD pretty much sums my feelings of it.
Oh man I missed this one... my jobs usually end up being night time work, so I don't get to watch South Park and other cool things at night anymore. And I stopped watching it for awhile when Kenny left the show, glad he's back.

Well simple if you want an ADD or ADHD person to focus on something find what they like... be it cartoons, movies, karate, books... than take what you want them to focus on and related to the area that they are interested in. If they take interest in it... more than likely they'll check into each area of that item. See I was easy, my main focus goes towards Cartoons, and now anime as well. So something like Ninja Turtles got me because there was so much to focus on... and pull me right into it... be it the movies, books, comics... and toys. I love toys *G*

Don't dismiss people with ADD or ADHD for not being able to learn... because we can learn... we just learn different than other people and at a different pace depending the subject.

Oh MVS cool icon of Spike.

  29. Burger King has some cool Turtle toys. Seems like they give 'em out when they run out of (or are in between) franchises.

Those would be left over from last January when they had TMNT toys as the toys for the month. Infact a Leonardo from that set is on my desk in front of me. They had all four Turtles and April.
