Is there something higher than #1? Sorry, don't mean to be a dick, but it had to be pointed outOriginally Posted by lithium
She's definitely way up there and could easily afford all those cars.
I knew that when she invited Bill Clinton just to chat and give xmas baskets to the whole crowd. If I watched talk shows, i'd definitely be watching Ellen and this, easy.Originally Posted by lithium

Yes, she COULD afford them. But the point is, she didn't buy them. This was a promotional stunt from GM. Bascially, a freaking big advertisment.Originally Posted by TobalRox
Apparenty, it's working.
The point is she has enough pull to get a company to donate 7 million dollars worth of their product to her viewers. Who else has done that? Everyone else is doing fucking telethons!
But in the end, it was just a publicity stunt for good PR, but a nice way of doing so; for the same price as 50 TV adverts, where the only people who benefit is the rich TV companies, her huge publicity stunt directly influenced individual peoples' lives for the better, which is a great thing to do.
Pull nothing, it's because she has a large audience and GM figures this is good PR. I guess one could say that is the same though.Originally Posted by Rumpy
She seems to be taking (or at least getting) the credit for this. Someone taking credit for something they didn't actually do? In America? Oh yeah, that's the American way, I forgot.
Besides, it's a fu*king Ponitac! I'd sell that thing as soon as I could. 3 years from now, I bet every one of those cars is in a trash heap.

She made it happen on her show so she does deserve some of the credit.
I just worded that poorly. I meant Martha was definitely #1 at some point, whether she still is I don't know.Originally Posted by TobalRox

You know, the only reason GM gave cars to these woman was because Oprah found them and then went to GM and asked for their donation.
It's not like GM went out of their way to find these girls. So yes, Oprah is the hero in this case. GM kicks as for sure, but still Oprah is the hero.
