my take on the question? you saw a cutie, got horny and now shes gone away. let it go. i could see if you got to hang out with her more than just a "business trip" but really......just drop the whole notion. people can seem so perfect until you hang out with them more, and with her being so far away it would really suck if she wasnt interested. then we'll have a thread devoted to the ensuing heartache.

I think the insanity of Japanes girls comes from a few factors. First, women still have a really strange place in Japanese society. They still have this "ideal" woman image to live up to (far beyond anything that currently exists in our country), and they have an illogical division of times when they certainly aren't considered as equals to guys, yet there are times when they are the one in control. As well, Japanese men - to stereotype them - are at the same time the biggest jerks in the world and the biggest p***ies in the world. I think Japanese girls are born and bred to deal with Japanese men, and when you take them out of that environment and have them deal with a different type of guy, most can't deal and turn psycho.

Hmm...can you be more specific about what you mean? My experience has pretty much been:

• (Non-bitchy) Japanese women are less likely to give you a hard time - not the submissive geisha girl stereotype, but not all up in your face either. Japanese people in general are ridiculously easy to get along with.

• After age 22 they're desperate to get married, which can lead to trouble, but they're still people. If something's not working only the true psychos will get all clingy and desperate.

• They feel entitled to run certain areas of your life - having to do with money and responsibility, generally, because that's the role they're expected to play in their culture.

• They have no career ambitions, because they aren't allowed to. There are roughly 4 acceptable career paths for women, and if they're still working after their first child, they're forced to feel a) if hot, they made a poor marriage choice, or b) are a feminist. So they want you to support them while they stay home. (This is changing slowly).

• They wear weird outfits.

• Many of them have...questionable oral hygiene.

Other than that, any problems haven't been anything I haven't encountered with western women, who, as has been pointed out, are as capable of turning irrational at the drop of a hat as anyone, maybe moreso.

If you've ever seen the movie Audition, that's how I see most Japanese girls turning out given the slightest nudge by some outside force. *heh*

Uhh... huh? You really didn't get what I meant? I mean that sure, it's possible to find a bear that might actually be able to be tamed enough to make a pet, but you still have to remember that at any time it could snap and try to kill you.

In the same way, sure, you can find a Japanese girl that is calm and of her wits enough to have a serious relationship with, but that snapping potential is still there.

Okay, I was totally confused... I thought you meant me at first.

No, I totally agree with that. I also agree that he needs to be really careful about getting worked up about a girl he hasn't known for very long, especially hasn't know in person for very long. It's so easy to do that, and then have the whole thing amount to nothing. It also is a totally different world in person and over the phone / e-mail / whatever. You can tell each other how much you love one another over the phone, then spend time together in person and absolutely loath one another.

Not necessarily hygiene, but just look at some pictures. There is a frighting amount of them that look like they have bear traps for mouths. Check out kill bill vol. 1 where the 5,6,7,8's are playing. There's a quick close up of one of them that will make you do a double take.

It's weird. Asian women that grow up here dress better than anyone, but females from Hong Kong and Japan seem to just wear random clothes alot of the time.

Japanese women from Japan, specifically. And certainly not all of them, but it occurs more often than with people who grow up here.
