I like Stern not because he tells lesbians to kiss, or because he tells Jenna Jameson she has a clean bush, or whatever. I like him because he's really smart, a great interviewer, has a self-deprecating sense of humor kinda like Conan, and has great chemistry with his crew. Nowadays, the fact that he has to clean up his act kinda brings out those qualities because he cant rely on raunch and stupidity 100%. If he has no boundaries... well that might change. And that would suck - I mean if I wanted to just hear raunch and stupidity without a wit of intelligence I would sign up for XM and listen to O&A.
Have some faith in the man. Howard is obviously actively involved in the show's content and well aware of where it needs to go to be good. He is smart when it comes to what he's doing; I doubt not being censored will affect his composition much.Originally Posted by diffusionx
He's also a great businessman and will succeed on satellite radio. Buy up Sirius stock NOW.Originally Posted by diffusionx
Cleaning up his act is one thing, but they censor even some of the most inoffensive stuff on his show these days. I don't think he'll become like Opie & Anthony, but it will at least put some of the funny back that the show has been missing recently.Nowadays, the fact that he has to clean up his act kinda brings out those qualities because he cant rely on raunch and stupidity 100%. Well we all knew it was going to happen. As soon as O&A proved it was a viable option, Howard decided to throw his hat in the ring also.
I'm sticking with XM as I've always liked O&A better, but for howard fans, especially in markets that don't carry him, this is great news!
i have 15 months to get a Sirius system now. I'm just worried how he's going to grow an audience from satelite. Sure he'll get all the fans to sign up, but theres no way to get average people flipping through the stations to start listening anymore.
Rebroadcasting the show later is a great thing, and he gets 2 more channels to program any way he wants. Plus no additional fees beyond standard Sirius subscription. Sounds good.
I've been listening to Howard for ever 10 years now and i think the show is just as funny as it's ever been. Artie has really done a lot to bring the level back up to the old days, and i expect it to be better than ever after the move to satelite. I wouldn't worry about excessive "shock" humor ruining the show, because that's never what the show has been about. The show is just about being real and hanging out, doing and talking about the kinds of things you would with your best buds, sometimes it's sex, sometimes it's calling people retards or wishing cancer on people, and sometimes it's about mundane topics like movies or politics. The fact is that Howard Stern is one of the wittiest, most intelligent voices out there and it's a shame that people choose to ignore that fact and believe that he's nothing more than a purveyor of indecency.
The show is better on the radio, by far. So much gets left out of the E! show, all they show are the special events and celebrity interviews. The thing is the show really excells when they're just talking amongst themselves, making fun of Gary and doing the news. I believe Howard will stay with E!. He's talked extensively about how good his relationship is with them. The show is already full of cencored nudity and bleeps so it's not like they're going to be doing all this new dirty stuff that E! can't handle.Originally Posted by lithium
The E! show would be better if it were at least an hour long. They also need to cut it so they don't waste all that time showing clips of whats coming up. At the end of one half hour show you've seen the same 5 second preview clip about 15 times.
Sirius is on the fast track to going out of business. They've thrown so much money around the past year or so, it's just unreal, and they're still a distant #2. I hope they stay in business, but man, they need to settle down before they go bankrupt.
Maybe they can keep Robin (or however you spell her name) in a closet. She is the most annoying person on radio. All she does is repeat whatever anyone says and it's stupid.
