Thread: Crisis Zone

  1. PlayStation 2 Crisis Zone

Any day now, I should be getting my copy of Crisis Zone for PS2. This looks great- basically the arcade game with TC3 quality graphics and some nice Namco extras.

TC3 may have had a couple of spots open to a trashing rampage, but in Crisis Zone you're not hard up for stuff to break while you're mowing down Derrick Lynch's URDA slime bags- you can chisel away at pillars ala the Matrix lobby shootout, shoot up CDs and tellys in an electronics shop, and more.

Here it's crucial to mow down the enemy ASAP even more than in TC3- every stage you clear brings with it a rather sizable Time Bonus. Accuracy and combos don't really help score, at least in Arcade mode.

What more could I want? Probably an H&K MP5K styled special edition GunCon with internal blowback, but I'm glad we're getting this game at last on PS2.

Oh by the way, the PAL territories got it ahead of us- lucky gits.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  2. I'll just wait until it drops to 20 bucks, because only about 10 people own a lightgun for the ps2, and about 5 of those will actually buy the game.

This title begged to be made a budget release, but no dice.

And I thought the game was 40? It's actually 50? This is going to bomb so very bad.

  3. Is the screen flash bad? I know in TC3 when you got the machine gun it was like a strobe light. Is all of CZ like that?

I love Crisis Zone in the arcade, but I'm not sure how it'll feel without a machine gun in my hands =(

Didn't I read something about this game having dual gun support for one player?

    Yep this is true.

I'll end up getting this as well, although I still think it's shit that Namco is charging $50 for it(What gets me is that the version with the gun is only $10 more...I mean seriously it feels like since I already own two guns I'm getting ripped off). I love me some gun games though so eh..I'll live.

If Gradius V was a $30 release, then maybe Namco could've done that for CZ- even if it were for a Game Only package. IIRC Crisis Zone hasn't been as popular as TC series in the arcades where I've played it- the TC2 and TC3 machines are usually packed, while you're bound to get your turn on CZ real fast.

I wish Namco would've thought of a pedal addon for their own GC2- since the joystick port is not normally occupied and any input on it triggers pedal action, bringing one out for $10 would've been a great idea.

Being a fan of the arcade version, I preordered. You'll be hearing my impressions before too much longer.

I would have bought it day one at 30 bucks.

I'd almost bet on some 3rd party company making a machine gun for the PS2 (like Pelican's official Silent Scope gun for Konami's SS Complete & Sega's HOTD3 on Xbox), but I'm not sure how it would compare to GC2 on accuracy.

I have like 3 GunCon 2s by now. I remember how Ninja Assault dropped to like $20 with the gun. Maybe this'll do the same.

IAWTP. The gun alone made the game fun. Destroying everything and watching it fly around also made it fun. But that MP5-style gun just made you feel so badass.

This game really is the easiest of the TC's. It was the first one I one-credited, followed by TC1 and then TC2. (All in the arcade.) TC3 is just fucking impossible to one-credit though. It's so long! And that's why it's the only TC game I actually own. It's a real challenge compared to the other games.

I still might pick this up because of the shee mindless fun value, after the price drops. Whenever I pass it in a movie theater or mall, I give it a go, see if I can still one-credit it.
