Hmm, that's cool that the original KF was translated. The only thing I ever read about it was that it was "a dog" (Halverson). I'd probably enjoy it, though.
Well, King's Field I (NA) was actually King's Field II (JP). We never got the *actual* King's Field I (JP).
[Edit]: And be "we", I'm referring to US and such. I always forget when people are outside the US (like you). There may indeed have been a EU release of the real KFI, but I never heard about it.
Compass: I finally reconnected ye ol' ps2 and tried out Echo Night: Beyond. I believe it uses the same graphics engine and controlsystem as KFIV. First impressions: a mixture between KF and Clock Tower III.
The character walks even slower than in Kings Field, but it's ok to change pace once in a while. It takes forever to turn around and look behind your back. The prominent exposure of some bridal-suit ghost during the intro, makes me believe they targetted this game at female gamers.
The story seems real simple so far: "Space shuttle crashes on devoid moonbase and your astronaut-fiancee is missing". Then there are some ghosts around that demand specific items to go away. The first ghost you encounter was apparantly an alcoholic in his former life, so he needs his hip flask of liquor to make peace with the lord and go away. During the game there is practially no music, just heavy breathing from your spacesuit. I still need to interpret if the game is hitting the right mood of 'lost on isolated spacestation'.
I wouldn't recommend it. Clock Tower 3 is just another survival horror game. It has a hardcore fancrowd though, so I'm probably going to get flamed for this comment. The website is still up: http://www.clocktower3.co.uk/
