Don't listen to that two-timer, g0zen. He's also seeing WoW. You'll just be in for a hurricane of hurt.

Back on topic, I might be on tonight after 11 PM EST, but only until midnight or so.

    Isn't it Phish Food?

And yeah, Bungie.net is back. I only won 1 of the Rumble Pit games I played, but I think I did decently throughout. 1/9 isn't THAT bad, I guess... it's kinda harsh with it being #1 or nothing.

Yeah it is, but finishing consistently high, while it doesn't reflect really in the stats, does make your level go up.

and I guess it is Phish Food. Fucking stupid if you ask me. Ben & Jerry's mostly retarted, and I can get better ice cream at some local places. And pretty much anywhere else, too. Overpriced averageness.

The Dreamery Vanilla that you can find in stores though is fucking the best fucking vanilla ice cream you will ever eat. Period.

Edit - which is made by Edy's. Rock on.

I agree, Edy's is the shit.

How does the ranking work, anyway? Is it points based, like it was in Crimson Skies, where if you kill someone with a better ranking you gain more points than by killing someone with a low ranking, while losing more points by being killed by a lowbie than by someone with a better rank?

Pretty much. Bungie implemented a variation of Chess' ELO ranking system.

Instead point changes are determined by comparing the winner's skill to the loser's skill. You don't really need to know much more about the system to understand how Halo 2 experience works.
Bungie gives an extremely detailed explanation of how everything is calculated in their Ranking Overview page.

It's not 1 or nothing: you gain experience for every person you beat and lose experience to very person who beats you. 100 points if they are the same level as you 10 pooint difference based on the level gap. So if you are a level 10 and you lose to a 12 you lose 80 points, but if you win you get 120. So as long as you place 3rd or higher you should gain experience, just not a whole lot.

This is also why I don't like going into match made with people that might make me lose, if someone is a level 7 and they lose to a 15, their rank goes just about nowhere, mine on the other had gets fucked.
