Is the ending for Halo 2 really as bad as the MGS 2 ending?

Out of curiosity for those of us who have no interest in playing the game, would anyone care to post a spoileriffic plot synopsis? I hear the stopping point of Halo 2 is bad but I'll never see it for myself, and I'm at least mildly curious how horribly they blew their narrative.

Have you played single player? If so, you would have noticed that they used quite a few bites and dialogue from it.

And there's the bit that can be construed as criticism, albeit the exact same criticism leveled at it by everyone else on the thread. In my defense, the word "curious" reappears, as opposed to "I can't wait to invest a huge amount of negative emotion in this game that only mildly interests me and have been eating nothing but bran and prunes for days in preparation of the barrage of shit I'll be raining down from it atop my lofty perch where I play superior Japanesey games like Technic Beat and Katamari Damacy!!! Fear, ph34R! my l33tn3355!!!!111".

So to clarify- curious about the story, not interested in game.

Master Chief is orbiting Earth in the ship Cairo, fighting off Covenant boarders. He carries a Covenant bomb off the Cairo and deposits it on a Covenant ship, scuttling it. After a lot of fighting in the African city of New Mombassa, MC and his allies are forced to fly into the warp zone of a Covenant ship making a slipstream jump. The city is wiped out by the jump, but the heroes are warped across the galaxy, to Halo.

The perspective then shifts to a Covenant Elite named the Arbiter. He is charged with killing a rebel group of Covenant who reject the Prophets. Destination, Halo. You get to play as the Chief and then, finally, back to the Arbiter. The Arbiter meets Sarge, and agree to an alliance against the rebel Covenant.

Halo is activated, but turns out to be a dud. Concerned about the other Halos in existence, it is revealed that they can all be activated at a single location, the Ark. The Ark is hinted to be on Earth. Master Chief is shown aboard a Forerunner ship headed for Earth. Sarge asks him what he's doing. "Finishing this fight" is the reply.

After the credits, Cortana is shown with the Flood Gravemind. It wants to question her, and she says, "Okay, shoot."

Speaking of bullshit MGS2 ending, I'm even more pissed that MGS3 doesnt start where 2 left off! MGS3 should'nt even be called 3 since your not even playing as Solid Snake. Its a fucking prequel.

Eh, staying the hell away from the end of MGS2 is just fine by me. I'd rather they try to make a fresh start 40 years in the past, than spend time attempting to find logic in that mess. Let Metal Gear Acid handle the mystery of the 12 dead guys who rule the world. I just wanna slash some Russian guys' throats.

After the credits, Cortana is shown with the Flood Gravemind. It wants to question her, and she says, "Okay, shoot."

And looks sexy while doing it. Seriously! For an AI, Cortana is pretty hot! I smell tentacle rape in Halo 3!

And you know, that was a pretty good summary Salmonax and when you summarize it like that, it makes the ending look, well, a lot better than at first glance. When you really put it all together, the ending is very apropriate..it's just that is really is very, very sudden.

That's right. When Chief said his last line I was expecting another scene to start, I'm sure whoever ran the cinematics made it seem that way to hook us until the screen went black.

It isn't. They've been working on another game alongside Halo 2. Two other games actually, but the first got canned and replaced with the second. Uses the Halo 2 engine, but I don't think anything else is known about it. Probably will get canned as well to make room for Halo 3 though. I'm sure MS will push for that.
