Thread: Best mic for vocals?

    Best mic for vocals?

Eh eh? I don't really wanna spend more than 400 bucks. Other than that I am all ears.

Oh, and it would be for recording...not for live stuffs.
I took all your French Toast.

  2. Damn 400 bucks? Spend 100 and get an SM58, my favorite vocal mic. Plus they're tough as hell and can take a beating.

  3. I think I preffered the SM59 to the 58, I cant really remember though. There is an SM 59 right?

I'm sure there is, but I've never heard of it. Shure makes a bazillion different mics. Are you thinkin of the SM57 maybe?

I was probably thinking that I preferred the 58 to the 57, everyone around here seemed to be using 57's and I couldnt understand why.

  6. You might want to look at the Studio Projects C1, it has been favorably compared to the Neumann U87, a revered vocal mic. It's fairly inexpensive (200-300$) for a large-capsule solid-state condenser, and I have heard only positive things about it. Should be great for vocals.

Awesome. Thanks for the help, guys. I think I am going with the Studio Projects. Seems to have gotten some great reviews.

    Thanks again

    Vocals in a studio?

I bought a Blue Baby Bottle, and its the best $400 I ever spent.

If you've got the cash do not go with anything but a Blue.

I own a C1 and I swear by it. Buy two of 'em for sterio drum or guitar recording as well. Awesome, awesome mic. If you're wondering what they sound like here's some recordings I made with them.

    On vocals:

On room ambience (mic set up in back of room to pick up feeling of "space")

And one that is used for drum "oomph" (placed to pick up whole drum kit in addition to close mics)

And that's keen for vocals? 400 is my very limit, so I think I could go for this one. I assume you mean this, right? http://www.bluemic.com/modules.php?o...dex&prod_id=12

The C1 seems pretty sweet as well though. It's either C1 + more ram for computer, or the one you recommend. Any ideas?

Those are good quality. Thanks for sharing!

I guess since I am not good with instruments, I am just gonna worry about vocals right now (not just mine, but others as well). So I'll do vocals and build what I want to do with instruments around that. People can help me with that. So, having a great mic is very important. The C1 would be nice for that, no?
