Thread: Good anime for those who've never seen anime.

  1. I hated the animatrix. Some of the animations were cool but overall It just wasn't interesting.

I'd like to get together one day and show them anime is not just about tentacles and sensless violence.

So, far, all I have in my collection that's not totally off the wall is Princess Mononoke, and maybe even Macross Plus. (Otaku no Video and Akira are out of the question.) I'd like to keep it to movie length as well. They're mostly girls, so that might help things out.
Well, if you wanna get them to cry on your shoulder, and then make out with them, go ahead and watch Metropolis. It worked for me. And, it's a good'n.
    OMG <3 4EVA
Scourge:Azumanga Daioh is exactly the same thing as Ninja Scroll.
    buttcheeks: High school so weird

  3. Castle of Cagliostro is pretty family-friendly, barring some cussing on the DVD dub.

  4. Perfect Blue.

My kids (son is 9, daughter is 7) love metroplolis, spirited away, and kiki.
any recommendations of stuff like that, that all three of us could enjoy?
I realize that tnl may be the wrong forum for real recommendations, but we'll see....

you'll be spending a lot of family time after watching it. they'll have questions and you'll need to have answers. lots of them.

Panda Go Panda is also good from what i've heard. don't know what it's about, but i think pandas are involved.

  6. I'm not that into anime, but I'm not completely stupid. I'm aware of Overfiend.
However, being that I want my daughter to remain virginal forever, maybe multi-penised demon rape is just what she needs to see.

  7. You can't just say which anime are good for girls. Some girls like violent stuff and porn.

If they aren't scared of uber-realistic titty flopping action, I recommend Plastic Little. Its well animated and interesting while at the same time encapsulates the feeling and mood you get from alot of other anime. Whats the point in showing them shit which is exceptional from the norm? Lets face it, the target Audience for Anime and manga is retarded tweens with hard ons, showing them something half normal mis-represents what anime is all about, which when you get down to it, is pretty well summarised by "crazy japanese cartoony stuff".

I think part 3 has father-on-daughter tentacle penii rape so go with that. I can't really remember, I watched it while babysitting a little girl years ago (hey, it was their DVD).

well, most of the animations were kinda anticlimactic. or just didn't make sense. for instance...
    MARATHON
    "I'm going through the matrix!"
"no you're not, you just broke both your legs."
    "son of a bitch!"

  10. I was disappointed with animatrix, too. There was some decent artwork but the writing was awful.
