    5) Went to bed.
    6) Woke up.
    7) Playstation doesn't read discs of any kind. US, Jap, PS2, PSX, legit, bootleg.
    8) Playstation = glorified memory card managing station.
    9) Fuck that.
Ah, I remember one time people were complaining about breaking PS2s and you said you bought one day one and it never broke. Sony got you in the end. You poor unfortunate cunt.

If you answered those questions with yes, no and no repectively, it most likely isn't working becuase of something that happened when you took it apart. But hey, that's just me saying the obvious.
    Yes.

    No.

Yes. It worked fine for the rest of the night, through many hours of game playing and many a reboot. Worked with the lid off, and on. It stopped working at some point in the night.
There is zero chance that what I did (putting a piece of tape aprox 1/16 the size of a postage stamp over a small black switch) made the drive burn out.

    Sometimes things just break.

  4. Wal-Mart+Cash=New PSTwo

    Broken PS2+New PSTwo's Box and recept=Refund

  5. That really sucks Josh. Did you make sure that the tape didnt turn into acid and burn through the motherboard*?

    * Not possible

I thought this was common knowledge for anyone that owns a Sony product.

(Also: Target, Meijers, Sears and Kmart will work also)

That does not work anymore (around here, anyway). All of the Wal-Marts (hell, all of the retail locations) around check the serial numbers on the recepit and the old system to make sure they match. I guess you can get lucky with a clerk lazy/ignorant enough to not check, but with systems the manager of the electronics department needs to clear it.

What would work is buying a new PSTwo, opening that sumbitch up and swapping out the drive assemblies. I have no idea how much work that would involve, though. (I have not seen the PSTwo innards -- my old PS2 works fine enough kthx).

Theres a barcode sticker on the back, that's the only thing you need to switch.

  9. ...

I have another idea -- Buy system at [insert store here], pay 20 more bucks and get 2-3 year warranty, then enjoy and if breaks take back for a new one. Best Buy has a full replacement policy. But it with the rewards program and a 10% coupon and save a few bucks too.

Step 2 -- buy a Jap PS2, use that for Jap games. Modded system rarely outlast ones made for that region (not saying you broke it at all, just that modding is a risky thing, even if it's a minor thing).

So far, some good and bad things. I don't like that new PStwo has no real off switch. I do like that it support progressive DVD support, has the DVD remote built in, and has the broadband adaptor built in. Size is nice, but it does feel flimsy, esp lid etc. Also region DVD X is no longer supported on the new PStwo, so I can't watch my movies in RGB anymore (green screen problem).

I say stick with your old one, unless you don't have one, and then get a new one with a warranty.

hush, everything you own should be made well enough to take it apart, then put it back together, and it still work.

It is a fucking PStwo, not a generic transformer from bumfuckchina

EDIT: well everything but living creatures.
