Thread: Tenchu: Fatal Shadows

  1. Preview that actually goes over a lot of the little things that are new/improved:

  2. Everyone always says Tenchu 2 was bad, but hey, it's the only one that let you design levels and for that it rocked
There was an import-only re-release of the original that let you edit levels, actually.

Because going around killing every enemy with the same technique which you could do for a good deal of tenhcu 3, gets boring. If they were to have each environment of the levels different and clever, seperating them from the way you play the other levels, that would make this a truly great game.
Hmm…good suggestions. I don't think that the graphics look bad but otherwise I agree with you. Let's throw some ideas around for what we'd like to see in the next Tenchu, say if it was on PS3. Gameplay, level design, etc.

One thing I'd love to see improved the most is the enemy AI. Instead of an enemy forgetting about you the second you jump to a rooftop, I'd love it if they actually started aggressively pursuing you, actually climbing up and chasing you over the rooftops, over fences, alerting other guards that will join in on the chase as well, and not giving up until you lose them make it to a spot they're unable to follow to.

More interactive environments. I actually wouldn't mind some Pirince of Persia-style platforming.

Being able to poke holes in ricepaper walls to peek inside or actually just cut them open would be a good idea.

The ability to set tripwire boobytraps would be cool.

Larger, more complex levels with more routes to get to the objective.

More traps and natural and man-made obstacles.

In-depth mission editor and expanded multi-player mode with a shitload of maps.

Narrow ledges, and tighter controls to help naivgate them.

A Batrope kind of tool, where you can shoot an arrow with a rope attached to it and then tightrope walk across, having to use the analog stick to maintain your balance.

Being able to knock out light sources to confuse and blind the enemy. Having a special ability to see in the dark would work well with this.

Shinobi Hyakusen? That was a collection of fan created levels, not a re-release of the first one.

He's not talking about Shinobi Hyakusen.

The original Tenchu was released in Japan with 8 levels. Aquire added an additional 2 levels for the American release, and then re-released Tenchu in Japan with the added 2 levels and a new mission editor. Then Aquire had a contest where people all over Japan could submit their self-made missions. The top 100 enteries were released in Shinobi Hyakusen. For every 10 missions you cleared, you unlocked bonus shit, like art galleries and promotional videos.

Right. It didn't come out over here. So as far as I'm concerned, Tenchu 2 is the only one that let me create my own levels.

Never messed around with the level editor in 2 that much. How extensive is it, and how much space do the created levels take up on a memory card?

Anyone play the Japanese re-release of the original Tenchu and can comment how the level editor stacks up against the one in 2?
