  1. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3? i must be dreaming!

    From Gamespot:

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/12...s_6114540.html

Earlier this evening, EA LA vice president Mark Skaggs sent a surreptitious email to the Command & Conquer fan newsletter list that stated, "we are very proud to announce that the team that brought you Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Command & Conquer: Yuri's Revenge, and Command & Conquer: Generals has officially started work on our next project set in the Red Alert universe!" In the same email, Skaggs went on to reveal that the new game will be powered by the SAGE engine, the same technology that the studio used for Command & Conquer: Generals, then later modified heavily for The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth.

The email went on to state that an official announcement would be made "soon." GameSpot will have more details as they become available.

i'm speechless, i have always enjoyed C&C:RA series greatly, and after seeing how EA butchered the C&C:Generals, i had very little hope that we would ever see RA3(if thats what theyre gonna call it).

the game is said to use the SAGE egine, which was impressive, but i feel it needed some enhancement. The soldiers modeling in generals was total ass, the texture were cool, but for RA3 i hope they make things a little brighter, i had a hard time distiguishing some units due to the terrain having similar color in generals.

also, 3 things i would like to see in RA3, 1) i hope i have the option to zoom out more than in generals. 2) having game speed control, generals was pathetically slow. 3) i would like to have the option to place the control bar on the right side like in RA1 and 2. instead of placing it at the bottom.

anyways, enough talk, i just hope EA doesnt butcher this game.

btw, did the westwood designers join EA?

  2. I think most of Westwood was absorbed into EA...

I have only played the original C&C and the original Red Alert (loved them both). If anyone has the time, what other games came out in this series since? Which ones are worth playing?

  3. Frankly I thought Generals was the best in the series, since it was actually playable. But then again I'm from the Blizzard camp when it comes to RTS, and since this is a C&C thread I won't go any farther. I did enjoy the premise of the first Red Alert, so hopefully they can do some nifty things with this.

  4. Do not put a cap on the amount of units you can build and keep the skirmish mode AI balanced properly (Warcraft 3 is pretty brutal) and I will buy this game. I love the Red Alert series. The best missions are the race against the nuke missions.

I never knew it was a one-or-the-other deal with the fans =/

I enjoy them both a lot. I loved the original Red Alert, it's one of the few RTS games I've ever beaten (on both sides, too). Never played Red Alert 2, but someone should tell me if Tanya's in it. That'd get me to try it out.

My dad loves Red Alert and creamed his jeans when he played Generals. He even told me Zero Hour sucked because they still didn't get the naval units right.

That game and Solitaire are all he plays.

Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge expansion = MAD RTS!

You have got to try out Yuri's Revenge, i played it online for a stead year non stop, it was so addicting, i woke up and slept playing Yuri. the shit they say in the game is so fucking helariouse

they need to leave the Generals crew from touching RA3, or else i'm gonna raise hell!

  9. This isn't Red Alert themed, but it is RTS themed:

I want naval units back in Warcraft. They took them out of Warcraft 3, I assume it was because the story just briefly crossed water or mentioned the word water (to get to the Northern islands), but what is there any other reason why they were taken out? I liked the naval combat in Warcraft 2 a lot, and the maps like 1000 islands would make you think strategically about which islands to go on to build outposts and defense and which to avoid.

To me the RA series has this sense of charm that i find lacking in Generals(besides i billion other things).

tell your dad he needs to check out RA2: Yuris Revenge, it's not as graphically impressive as Generals, but in terms of game play it pisses all over Generals. And yes RA2 and Yuri both have tons of naval units.

as Yuri would always say..... "Disc in Fliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!"
