  2. The BEST advice you'll ever get. Put your name under your parents car insurance. Their car insurance price will raise a little by adding your name as another driver under the household. After 3 years or so with having insurance, you can branch off and get your own.

Trust me. I'm asian and for those who know, asian families spend their money wisely and are a tight ass about it. That was how my dad was. People kept telling him to put me under his for 2 years but he insisted that I get my own from the start without any previous insurance. Well, when he called around, they wanted $2,000+. No insurance = no driving experience, regardless if you had your license for 5-10 years. Cuz you cant drive without insurance.

After caving in, he put me under his. His raised about $600. I paid for that whenever he got his bill. After 2-3 years, I branched off onto my own insurance. Now, I only pay $500.

For someone who had no previous insurance and under 25 years of age, your premium will be high. If you were a female, it would be a different story.

Yeah, if that's an option. Some of us have parents that arn't down with that kind've thing. I've been on my own insurance since I started driving and I've payed for it myself. It's expensive as hell, but went down $500/yr after a year of driving.

Neither was my dad but eventually he thought about it and the price. $600 compared to $2000? Even with the $500/yr off, you still save money under the parents. If you're a safe driver, then the parents have nothing to be worried about. Considering I come from a state with the craziest drivers, I dont think Opaque has anything compared to what us NYers are experienced to.

It's 26 according to Nationwide. I was expecting some kind of discount this year since I just turned 25 and I've got a perfect driving reccord but I still pay around $100 a month.

Accidents happen and my mom doesn't make all that much money. I'm probably a safer driver then her but I've had a close call one or two times and it would really hurt her if I got into an accident on her plan.

My dad on the other hand thinks I should be making 50k a year and have my own house and it'd be a step backwards if I went onto his insurance.
