Thread: Water levels need to go

  1. Once you have the hydro upgrade for Clank, the water areas of Ratchet and Clank where a good deal of fun, I think. ...
Maybe I'm just a sucker for exploring, I dunno.

And, yeah, Mario 64 had some incredible water areas.

Probably my favorite level in Mario 64. I like to refer to it as pure genius.

  3. I hate snow levels equally as water levels.

It's not the snow that sucks. It's the obnoxiously slippery ice.

Right now, I'm playing through Metroid Prime 2, and the water level here is a giant pain in the ass, and totally slows the whole game down.

I've heard Ninja Gaiden had an annoying water level as well, and DMC had one also.

It seems most platformers need to have the water level as well.

I can't wait for the day developers realized that water levels are a huge waste of time and an annoyance... I can't even think of a game right now where they were done right.
I instantly thought of Sonic the Hedgehog when you said Annoying Water Levels. The worst levels in that series, of all time, are those stupid slow, "get the airbubble, shithead," levels.

    OH THE IRONY!

That level was fun, but it was a BITCH. Of course, all the levels after the first were a bitch to play. That game drove me mad temporarily.
    o_O

  6. Oh man, the "floating bubble that cracks super easily" level in Earthworm Jim almost made me kill my friends when I was younger. I hated that level so much.

No that was awesome, especially if you knew all the secret places to get extra lives.
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

  8. The water level in Burning Rangers, was pretty cool. The controls were frustrating at first, but after you got the hang of it, all was good.

  9. The parts where you were in teh suit on Manaan in KOTOR were pretty terrible too. So goddamn slow, Jesus Christ.

Water levels have always been a pretty big bane on games, they're rarely pulled off well, either it slows the pace down to a standstill or they are incredibly tedious usually. The Water Temple in OOT is the perfect example. Iron boots? What the fuck were they thinking?

GOD! I FORGOT ABOUT THAT UNTIL NOW! NO! NOOOOOOO!

  10. 1) Snow levels are usually fun and different. The two from Mario 64 come to mind.

    2) Water levels do suck, always have sucked, and always will suck. A good one that comes to mind is the one from Super Mario 3, but partly because it features one of the best video game songs ever. But that's about the only good one there is.

    3) Mario 64 did every single type of level that can be possibly be done, and did it them all well. Truly a pinnacle of great level design. Now if only Sunshine wasn't the complete opposite.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.
