I really miss being able to say whatever I wanted in unofficial guides. One hint of any sort of humor and licensors completely freak out now.

That is the saddest thing I've ever heard. The Resident Evil 2 side boxes making fun of the graffiti and shit were hilarious.

This one doesn't help matters, either. Aside from that, she's got mad design skillage and nice penciling/inking/coloring which deserves some sort of respect in my eyes.

I just found this thread, and read it in its entirety, and I must say that GF and GG! are sorely missed. After reading this, I respect you guys 100x more. I don't think any other group of people have done more for the gaming scene.
Now, give us the Eggo, Kodomo, ECM, and Fury stories.

Takuhi, it is truly a small world, I have had several of your guides for a while now and never known until this day. The FFVI one of the Ocarina of Time one... if my memory of this thread serves, that is. I'm too lazy to look it up. If not, forgive the rambling nonsense, otherwise, I have to say they're some of the most informative guides and are easily the best ones to read. My roommate in college really loved the caption about receiving the horse as a gift, something about "It's a damn horse."

That's what initially drew me to GF. Back then magazines like Ultra Game Players and Next Gen were doing ultra boring layout designs (lot's o' white!) and Imagine Media had the worst screenshots ever. When I first read GF, I immediately thought, "Wow, this looks better than most ad layouts"...

... Of course I was not single handedly responsible for the style. Dave would say what he wanted and George, Terry and I would deliver it. So, what emerged was a group effort, not purely a Halverson creation. Swap out Terry for a different artist or George and I with different layouters and the results would have been very different. Maybe better, maybe worse, but not the same GameFan that emerged. I will take 100% credit for the screen shot quality, though. ;-)

Edit: So Halverson did not start me on my path, we all started down the same path together. As for talking crap about him, come on. The man deserves crap for the shit he pulled. Yes, he did it only to make a great magazine, and a great magazine indeed came out of it, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't give him shit for it. He gave us 10x the level of shit he's getting back.

Amen! Speak it, my brother. I know I definitely did not get my "start" from Dave. I came to work for GameFan at age 25-26. I purchased a house with the monies I made from my first endeavor, Hard'N'Heavy Video Magazine at age 22. So I was already pretty established in the art world when I joined up. Dave can lick 'em.

i hope you'll all indulge me posting some unfinished gf "fanart". I must've been 14 when i drew these. It was when Halverson was still head of the mag. The only finished stuff i did i mailed to posty.

these are all from started then aborted comics.

first is Halverson as Magneto (not that noticeable but he does have long hair and a mustache)
second is Nick Rox vs. a dragon. I just liked drawing dragons.
Third is a GF roadtrip. Rox gets mad at Hambleton for something.
