Thread: The GameFan history thread

  1. A few weeks ago a friend came over and saw a stack of Gamefans on my desk and he got all excited and said, "Dude, are they still making Gamefan!?" I laughed and was like "no." He seemed all disappointed. But it just goes to show, how often does anyone get excited for a videogame magazine? Gamefan really is legendary in the heart of Gamers.

"Your soul better belong to Jesus, mmm-mmmmm..... cause your ass belongs to me!"

  3. I recently bought and started playing the loveable PoPoLoCrois RPG on the PSP. What's that got to do with GameFan? I'll tell ya what.

I remembered as I was playing (well, actually, I remembered when I first saw some of the PSP screen shots, but the memory solidified as I played) that Gamefan did a full spread on the original PoPo game back in the day -- TEN YEARS AGO. I had memories of some big maps of the environment, and a piece of Narcia art. So, I finally dug out the issue today, and, sure enough, there's Narcia in all her hand-drawn cuteness, and huge, sprawling screen shot conglomerations that combine to show large portions of the environments. It's a four-page spread, and really shows off the unique art style the game has going for it. But the point is that I remembered specific details of a review of a game I never played from a decade ago (although, admittedly, I probably flipped through the issue once or twice in the intervening years). Not too many magazines you can say that about.

p.s. Takuhi liked it, gave it a 91.

If Takuhi liked it, that's good enough for me. His Pulstar review was a thing of beauty.

  5. He also loved NiGHTS, that awesome game you hate for some reason.

    FUCK

  7. I think this topic can continue for a while longer.

For one thing, I'd like to have a handy list of all the Gamefan contributors through the years. I can only get a partial list on Google.
