    i wonder why they chose 1080i and not 720p? both are cool though
    Not since they cut out online support. It's cool and all, but if they could have taken the man-hours to do this and used them to add proper online play instead, then they made a giant mistake. (Then again, I doubt the two are 1:1 -- but I just want to lament the loss of the online mode).

    As for going with 1080i over 720p, they probably do not have either the memory or the CPU time to come up with the other 180 pixel rows per frame. Frankly, I am shocked they even got 480p/1080i support in the game, considering how far it is pushing the PS2 hardware. They must have spent a ton of time on memory optimization to get that to fit.

  2. yah actually even 480p surprised me, considering that Kazunori Yamauchi said that Progressive Scan won't be available in the game.

    online gaming is a plus, but lately ive been caring less and less about online play. I get excited over it for the first 2-3 days, then the excitement dies down. ;0

  3. Does the resolution really matter for a PS2 game? Both sets of screens look terrible compared to just about any racer on the Xbox. It's like caring about Dolby 5.1 for a porno movie.

  4. Um...there will probably be only one XB racing game that looks technically better when this comes out, and none that will have tracks as good. Those shots are to demonstate the difference between the two modes and aren't indicative of what it really looks like. There's plenty of junk, post-release XB shots on the web that look like garbage compared to the actual game.

  6. see the game moving. world of difference.

  7. 480p = 640x480 progressive
    720p = 1280x720 progressive
    1800i = 1920x1080 interlaced

    1080i will look a lot sharper simply because there's a lot more "dots" on the screen, but 720p will look more "vibrant" because it's a true 60 frames per second instread of 60 half screen frames per second which interlaced is.

    So, it's pretty much a matter of if you prefer a sharper picture, or a smoother picture. I actually read a spec on a TV somewhere online that's capable of 1080p, but as far as I know, nothing currently on the consumer market has the horsepower or bandwidth to deliver 1080p content.

    A HTPC (3ghz+ one) and The Terminator 2 special edition DVD and some Imax flicks, will do it using WMP9

    relax dude, the game would look a thousand times better when it's in motion. those are just demo pics, doesnt show much compared to the real thing.
