That's really sad. I picked up his two books, Comics and Sequential Art and Graphic Storytelling & Visual Narrative, and was very impressed. I wasn't aware of Eisner's work before, so it was surprising to see how the Sprit comics he used in his Comics and Sequential Art kicked major ass.

Eisner pretty much created the graphic novel format, and his "Neighborhood" books are some of the best depictions of New York City in any medium. There's going to be a tribute radio show to Eisner on Jan. 19. 3:30-6:00 AM, EST. It'll be broadcast in NYC, and streamed online: http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/nsglnew.html
He was a fantastic artist. His spash title pages for Spirit are some of the best things to come out of the medium.
I got to meet him a number of years back at one of the Wizard World cons. I've got a signed copy of Dropsie Ave. to show for it.
That's a really good radio show. I think it come on right after or before the hacker radio show.Originally Posted by salmonax
Anyway, I'm happy to see it's still running. Last I heard it Smallville was making it's debut on the WB. I think they liked it![]()

Actually, the show has been cancelled for quite a while now. They were getting good ratings, but the management has no respect for comics, so they're reduced to doing intermittent fill-in shows.
The Onion AV Club reprinted a great interview with Eisner: http://www.theonionavclub.com/featur...issue=4101&f=2
Damn, I had forgotten about his book Last Day in Vietnam. That was a hell of a read, and he did it at age 83! He was an incredible talent and never missed a step.

Will Eisner is one of those guys I know I'm supposed to have respect for, but I've never actually read anything he's done. Contract With God seems to have been out of print for years, and The Spirit always looked like a Phantom-type product of its times. Hopefully one day I'll run across his material in a library.
As for his death, it can hardly be called untimely. Should I live to the ripe old age of 87, I'll have no cause for complaint.

Ah shit. Thanks for the news...I guess.Originally Posted by salmonax
I was curious as to why he had all of these shows listed as "guest fill in" or whatever for some punk rock show.
