It's not MAME. They're using their own proprietary emulation.

  2. It's still not very good and it definitely isn't worth 50 cents to a dollar to play.

I like the idea of keeping the classics in an arcade but I don't want to be ripped off for it. I know arcade operators want to stay in business too but they need to find better ways.

It's like the day I found a MsPacman/Galaga Class of 81 cab only to see "insert 2 credits to play" on the screen. No way. These games have always and will always be a quarter. I don't care how fancy the cab looks.

  3. I've played home-made MAME cabs that were far superior.

What disturbs me about Tekken 5 is I saw some guy playing T5 with his PS2 controller plugged in at the arcade. Did I miss something? When did going to the arcade mean you had a choice in the controls?

Concerning those MsPacman/Galaga cabs, they cost $3000 new. So they almost have to charge 50 cents per play. Sucks, but what can you do?

These Ultracades have been at every Dave & Busters I've been to (3). Judging by the amount of deviation between the D&Bs, I'd say that there should be one at all of them.

Since Namco got smart and realized that most American arcades do not maitain their controls at all, and that doing so would keep the game more lively at those locations. It was an experimental, unsupported feature in Soul Calibur 2 originally, so most arcades did not enable it but the ones that did universally got a positive response from it. Also note how the ports are hidden off to the side, out of plain view so some schmuck can not just brainlessly put some gum or peanut butter in the controller port.

If you think that this is a bad thing, you are deluding yourself.

That's senseless. Then again, most of what happens in the arcade industry is senseless.

I thought it was Tekken that started to kill them off in the first place.

I never said it's a bad thing, just... weird. Never heard of the SCII thing, so it makes sense in the end.

At my local arcade, at any time of day, I can say for sure that there is always someone on the MsPacman/Galaga machine, or the trackball machine (the one with Centipede, Missile Command, and Let's Go Bowling (Romstar/Capcom Bowling). So even at $3,000, and 50 cents a pop, it's working. Senseless, yes, a good business decision, apparently so.

  9. So I can use any PS2 pad on the T5 arcade game? I gotta get me a pad with macros on it and go kick some ass,

March 17th. And if you think that a home version release has a detrimental effect on arcade play, think about MvC2.
