Like the weak that are driving the direction of the console business, i.e. the casual gamer?

Most people are going to use what's given to them and not bother with anything else. The hardcore should always have the option, but the hardcore do not drive anything, really, because they're not the core. Recommendations and general goodwill do not equal system and games sales.

The cables are on sale at NOA's site for a reason: there would be little point in selling in-store. If the sales online were great enough to warrant it, these cables would be for sale in stores; it would warrant the risk to send them out. I highly doubt a nin.com poll would be THE determining factor in if and where the cables are sold. I'm sure it was taken into account, but I'd bet that the poll, market research on component usage, demographics, and focus panels altogether went into NOA's decision.

Opaque wins the thread. Buy a Nintendo system, you will enjoy the games, but don't be surprised at anything dumb NOA does, because it will happen.

    A lot.

*thinks back to the N64 controller, N64 carts, the N64 rumble pack, the fog of N64, the VB, the GC controller, the GC online field, the DS, the lack of DS games currently, the DS as a direct competitor to the PSP, the GBA originally with no backlight, the choice between a black and purple GC, etc*

I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but jesus, my forehead is red from all the times I've had to slap on hearing NOA's future gameplan.

  3. The DS lineup looks pretty bright. Especially if Demasked really is an online option.

  4. wtf...

  5. Isn't Component a form of analog video? I know the first-party component cables have a D/A converter in them (RGB/VGA cables can be made out of them), so why the hell did they put the Digital out port on the system in the first place? Unless they were planning on supporting DVI, the port seems to be completely and utterly useless. If Sony can squeeze 3 types of video encoding hardware into one port on the PStwo (NTSC/PAL, Component, RGB), there's no excuse for Nintendo.

  6. Well since this thread has turned into a " my system is better than yours" thread , it needs to be closed. Someone kill it please.

I just wanted to vent about stupid cables.
Korly-"Everyone here is an asshole, SURPRISE!"

  7. Are you even sure that RE4 will be component compatible? I tried booting up the demo using my custom VGA cable (which uses a hacked component cable) and it did not support progressive scan so I think your search might be futile (at least concerning RE4 in component)

I think we'd all agree that Colette's voice actress really sucked hard. That's the only real scar behind this game.

I played ToS on a new TV with composite and I was happy. I really hope they raise the standards for next gen consoles. Like giving us some component cables, or anything. The problem with that would only be accessibility, how many people have S-Video or composite slots on their tvs?

Not going to happen this gen. We still haven't made the switch from analog to digital TV, so there's still a lot of sets that do not have composite connections. It will take at least three years after the switch (either in 2006 or 2007, I'm not sure) before everyone will have digital TVs.

As long as the new systems come with 5.1 (or even 6.1) dolby digital capabilities, I'll be happy.

I remember reading in EGM's rumor mill, that the Revolution will come with VGA support out of the box.
