Thread: Hardcore Gamer

  1. Unless I'm completely off base here I thought this comment was directed at the graphics alone.
He said they don't work - which is not an indictment on the graphics solely. He said theres too much to follow on the screen - again, not an indictment on the graphics. Ships and shots too small to see easily interfere with gameplay.

  3. Can you blame me for not being interested in a thread named "Hardcore Gamer"?

Did you read the article or are you just going on what has been posted here?

  5. Seriously, Jeremy on this mag's staff makes me not want to pick it up. Then again, the only mag I've considered subscribing to recently has been Edga...It's not a personal attack on him as a person as it is on his review style.

My constructive criticism is to speak your mind, Jeremy. Backpedalling stuff of the type pointed out in this thread make it apparent that you're trying to write a review from your POV balanced against some imagined "average hardcore gamer's " POV. If games with tiny graphics stuck to you, hey, just say so...reader's will catch on (they're hardcore, right? They're paying attention). No need to appease them or do damage control IGN-style...just take a consistent stance. Reviews can be valueable even if people totally disagree with them. Also, vary your format a bit. You've grown out of the whole "this is a game for x-system, by y-publisher thing" from back in the day, so it's not completely hopeless...just try something more essay like : topic, supporting detials, conclusion on each paragraph. Of course, I'm no expert, just trying to give an honest, non-flaming evaluation.

  6. And that's appreciated. I've taken the feedback in this thread as advice to show more passion behind what I'm writing about. My RPG Maker 3 review (which won't be for the mag) will be the first test for showing this, and it should work, since I've got plenty to rant about with that game. As for the Sigma Star Saga review, the two-three people in this thread having trouble understanding it are the only ones I've seen have those problems. I've asked for feedback on that part from others, and it appears to be clearly understood by them.

    LAWWLLL

  8. Two words for anyone offering Jeremy writing advice in this thread.

    Don't bother.

He won't follow it. Just move on, and read (or don't read) the magazine accordingly.
